Hi Everybody,

Just wanted to ask if any of you have an idea where we could have our games nights and girls' games nights.

We are meeting more and more regularly now, but the venue is always a problem.

It should be somehow central, near U-Bahn and S-Bahn, but also good parking, as some people are coming by car.
Also it shouldn't be too loud, have big enough tables and enough light to play board games.
Drinks shouldn't be toooo expensive, would be nice if there was also a possibility to have food.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance smile.gif

We would tick most of your points. In the evening it's no problem to park opposite the pub plus we can let you onto the car park opposite us. Altona is not too far away from us ( 5 mins on foot), the tables can be moved together or you could have the big couch and we're not always crowded and have a loud atmosphere! We already have a few board games here: Lord of the rings ( in English), Carcasonne, die Siedler von catan, tabu, Labyrinth der Ringe, 3 games collections, 2 chess boards, game of life (in German though), UNO card game, Canasta cards, Poker, Hornochse ( a German but very funny card game) to name some of them ...

@ McLeans - Thank you for the offer. We tried to play a board game at McLeans a few weeks ago while there was a game on the TV and it was impossible. Between the distraction of the TVs, and the drunk people being loud and running around spilling beer on my husband and trying to tear flags off the ceiling, it wasn't a great place to play games.

Are there any televised games being shown on Thursday 28.Feb?

Perhaps McLeans could work if we could reserve all the tables in the left part of the pub and ask if the TV in that area could be turned off. That way we'd get a quiet area and the people who wanted to watch TV could still watch in the rear on the big projection TV. I think we have at least 10 people (maybe more) coming so it could be worth your while to have us in vs. the crowd that would normally be there watching on that TV. What do you think?

I am sorry to hear that you had such a bad day here. It was not a typical Sunday you experienced.

But to your request: On Thursday 28 there is no sport being shown and of course we can reserve space in the left side of the pub for you. To have enough space for 10, the board(s) and glasses etc. I suggest we reserve the three tables with the bench along the wall. We move the tables together and you should have plenty of space. What do you think?? Tele stays off as well.

Can we leave it at the Greek place for this time, and try McLeans the next time please?
I've already made a reservation for 12 people.

Yes of course, we will stay at the Greek place for this time, and try McLeans with this arrangement next time. Sorry to be confusing!

@Mcleans - We didn't have a bad time at all - we love your pub. It just wasn't the place to be playing a board game that particular day. If we were trying to watch sports and drink, it is the perfect place. It is, after all, a pub... We'll let you know when our next meetup is and have it at your place! And of course we will all be in to see Tish play on 15.3.

I'd like to know if anyone has been to this place and what they think of it for playing boardgames:

Mathilde Literature Cafe

It is near 3 U-stations (Schlump, Hoheluftbrücke, Hallerstrasse).

It is very near the Grindel Palast Kino, which I've never had any trouble finding parking near.

Note that there are two locations, a cafe, and a pub. I did inquire about having a meeting there and they basically said "No problem, just call and book a table".

Opinions anyone?
