Info on what's going on, Saturday 15.Mar.2008

It's a couple of weeks away but I'm already thinking about it. I know, I know...a total American holiday but I love it! Has anyone heard of anything going on around town for this wonderful holiday? I'm not expecting Berlin to dye any of the rivers green or anything...but maybe...a pub crawl of some sort?

SIM I meant the way we celebrate it. The over the top in your face holiday...just like any other celebrated in the states. Am I not right? Anyways, just looking to have some fun.

I´ve never celebrated St. Pat´s Day so far. What´s so special about that day? This day can also be used to keep up the friendship between Americans and Germans. Isn´t it?

Unless he's suddenly become the patron saint of the USA.

Could y'all muster a posse and pop down to Munich to get yer man Lejeune to WASH OUR FLAG??
Bet the one hanging outside the embassy up there is clean as a whistle.

It´s not worth celebrating day´s you don´t know why! Just like Christmas.

As an Irishman in Berlin for my first Paddies day I have no clue where is best to go for all things Irish. Any tips would be most welcome.

Cheers

Its grim. If you have friends with any colour in them they wont be let in to any Irish pub's I can think of. I am talking about Italians here. All the people you thoughtlessly left behind in Ireland crawl out of woodwork. Re: the I.D.A or embassy,ex Sinn Féin'ers or people you would not stand at a bus stop with let alone a join i the cultural soirée that is 'paddy's day' Also people who don't know or understand any of the complexities of what went on in Ireland, in well the last 20 years and ignorant gits 'I have been here 20 years but I'm going back' .All annoy come out to annoy the bejesus out of you.

Try and get a invite to the Irish Embassy go on I dare ye. I did once I'll never do it again. The days of the Berliners liking you just cos you're Irish are long gone. They have seen our true colours and they're not green white and orange.

Go gcuire Dia an t-ádh ort!

yeah lolo. you're usually so positive...

So far I haven't heard of any plans for paddy's day. Can't remember what we did last year (which could mean it was a really good time, maybe..)

I think it'll depend on the weather. If it gets a little bit warmer I wouldn't mind fixing a gathering in a park somewhere.

There will be live music at Finnegan's Irish Pub in Bergstr, Steglitz. Music starts at 19:30. Finnegan's is a friendly local, with decent food.

Not sure what lolo is on about - Berlin is still a friendly and great city in which to live - very open in general to people of all races and creeds - much more so than Dublin these days. So ignore those comments, and get out and about in Berlin and have fun - there's lots of it about.
