The DB-run S-Bahns/RB/RE trains will be running if that helps.
But, pretty much no bus, U-Bahn, or Strassenbahn in the region.

And for the few of us who live in Aachen, ASEAG is part of this strike as well. The following is taken from their website (google translated):
The strike has affected the entire line of ASEAG traffic in the city and district of Aachen. According to information from the local employers' association begins warning strike on Friday morning service beginning with the bus driver and ends with expected Betriebsschluss.Die ASEAG assumes that all the bus routes from Saturday again, as usual.

Should this happen again in the next few days - in Cologne the RVK Buses still run i.e. 260 - check in google under RVK. Also the S Bahns still run. With a little bit of research and maybe a bit of a walk - you can still get around in Cologne.

According to the KVB website, other companies (I assume they mean RVK) buses will still be running, just like the last time.

In Essen, only DB trains and a handful of privately-operated bus lines will run. The private lines are 171, 180, 190, 196, and TaxiBus 175; there are also some lines that are partially private-operated, so they will run but not at a full schedule--144, 164, 174, 177, 194
http://www.evag.de/74.html?&tx_ttnews%...Hash=d0bcc074ddIn fact, it looks like pretty much every
public transit system in
NRW will be struck tomorrow.
It could be worse: Berlin begins a 10 day strike tomorrow (with 5% of service continuing).
It could get worse: the GDL is threatening to strike beginning Monday--that could mean more Deutsche Bahn disruptions, which, if they combine with the ver.di public transit
strikes, could be disastrous.

Does anyone know if there will be a strike next MOnday and if it affects the U-trains in Düsseldorf and the Bahn trains in the VRR system?
Also, another question, I bought the Ticket2000 to ride the trains the whole month. The brochure said in case the public transportation was not able to take you to a scheduled destination, they would pay for other means of transportation up to €30 (Wednesday´s strike already costed me about €90 in taxis). Does anyone know if this clause is also applicable during strikes? Can I complain to the Rheinbahn and recover part of the taxi fares (I still have the receipts).
Cheers,
Daniel

Is it too much to ask that they handle their pay negotiations without making other working people's lives more difficult?

Strikes are SUPPOSED to make life difficult, that is why they are the most effective tool and not the most frequently used.
For rebates for monthly ticket holders, you'll need to read the Ts & Cs of the ticketing company.

The GDL has announced strikes beginning Monday. This will affect Deutsche Bahn services (ICE, IC, RE, RB, S-Bahn).
In the event of strikes, DB will operate under temporary schedules. You should be able to take IC/ICE trains even with a local ticket if your travel is disrupted by the strike.
The long-distance schedule is here:
http://statistik.bahn.de/lnkcnt.php?et=n5E..._2008-03-10.pdfThe NRW temporary schedules of RB, RE, and S-Bahn service are here:

No, the Mobility Guarantee does not apply to
disruptions caused by strikes. You could try to get a prorated (1/30th) refund of your monthly cost, though that might be denied as well.
