Tips on finding work as a registered nurse

Does anyone have information/suggestions on working as a civilian nurse around the Stuttgart area? I am an experienced emergency department registered nurse with a bachelor's degree. I'm moving with my husband this June to the area and am considering a part-time or per diem job. I tried looking on US military sites, but they are difficult to navigate and I am not able to find the information there on being a non-military civilian in Germany. Suggestions would be grateful!

there is a huge demand for trained nurses in the whole world... and especially Germany (hard work is beneath the women of this country), I would suggest trying to contact the nurses association here, and find you what you will have to bring as paperwork, and if you need to do an exam before you are licensed to work here.
There might even be a link to the German Nurses Assoc thru your American Branch on the web page, I know that us Dental Hygienists are connected around the world.

If you're interested in working on the army base, try the website for the Civilian Human Resources Agency:
http://cpolrhp.belvoir.army.mil/eur/index.htm

Here's the Stuttgart-specific subsite of that:

If you click on "Employment," you'll then want to click on "AF" for nursing jobs. You can click on "Search for Jobs (Europe)" to find the nursing job announcement. Then go back and click on "Army Job Application Kit" for details on how to apply. There's a specific resume system called Resumix. Resumes go into a central database, but you can specify where you want to work so that you won't get calls from other places.

However, I'm not sure how many opportunities there are on the Stuttgart base, though. They don't have an actual hospital, just a clinic:

(In fact, the army hospital in Heidelberg -- which was fairly big at one time -- has recently become a "health center," meaning no inpatient care after June; there will then be only one real American military hospital left in Europe.) Of course, you never know what the Stuttgart clinic might need!

Another option would be a school nurse job at an international school or one of the DoDDS (Dept of Defense Dependent School System) schools on the Army base. Here's the main page for the DoDDS-Europe schools (Stuttgart schools are in the Bavaria district and are called "Patch"):

Most of the employment information is for teachers, but every school has at least one nurse.

And another option, if you have a maternal-child background, is WIC, which has offices for many military bases:

Good luck!
