I have seen several bad reviews for US airways..!
Have any TT'ers flown to the US with US airways...?
Are they any good...?
Or are bad reviews justified..!?

If it's cheap anything is justified...

Can't remember if I've blown trans Atlantic on US Air or not but I've definately flown with them before and I have to say, they are NOT my favorite airline.

Does US airways operate their own flights to the US? Or would they just be star alliance flights operated by United or Lufthansa?

I#ve flown with them before. worst flight ever. FILTHY cabin. shit growin on the walls.
The worlds worst airways.
Late, bad customer service and the wings on the plane they use on the Munich/Phili route would seem to be held on with sticky tape.
Yes they most definatly do do their own flights.
I use to fly all the time with US Airway a few years back and had no complaints. The long layover in Philadelphia was a pain (I was flying on to Boston). On the flight the food was good and they alway handed out a lot of booze.

Not one of my favourite airlines, but they're the only one that flies direct from MUC to PHL. They're still better than Iberia, which is the worst airline I've ever flown with.

I've found that, more often than not, they're delayed which of course causes you to miss your connecting flights. Grumble grumble harumph harumph.

They always seem to get me to where I'm going +/- 20min of the scheduled depart/arrival time.
I can't complain. For Transatlantic.. Forget it.. Stick with Lufthansa, Air Canada or KLM

Most of my experiences with US Scare have been good, and flying internationally through Philly beats the hell out of pretty much every other East Coast airport.

Have flown them several times between Germany and US. Nothing unusually good or bad other than I hate PHL airport. Love Charlotte though.

Y'all never flown with PIA, huh? I had to threaten to sic the FAA on them to get them to use an airworthy aircraft to get my ass back home (back in the days when I was a poor student and was forced to fly whatever was cheapest). The MUC -> JFK odyssey lasted some 23 hours (does not include travel to MUC from Regensburg nor from JFK to hotel which combined would add an additional four hours or so).

Hey--I've flown for years with Iberia---they're great compared to US Airways! Let's put it this way--US Airways is the only airline that I won't fly--and I've changed tickets and paid more just keep my vow of never flying them again. I got fed up with them after continual rude service and delays -this was back in the late 1980's when rude service and delays were not the norm in the USA--and I swore I would never fly with them again. And I haven't...

I flew business clas with thm years back and was "surprised" to find the seating and service to be not a lot better than economy on many other airlines.

We've flown the Munich/Philly route with them a few times, and they were fine. Unquestionably, the quality of the cabin and the in-flight amenities are not as nice as Lufthansa (you won't get your own tv screen, for example), but considering the cost, it's totally adequate.

wait, you get your own screen on lufthansa ? someone better tell them that on the MUC<->San Fran route... still the old 747's with a tv somewhere way in the distance...

Their MUC-Philly route has a lot of friends and the staff are nice.
But they aren't the bet airline.
The last time I've looked at their prices though when planning US trips they wee DOUBLE the fare of what I could get elsewhere to fly to Philly.

LH fly A340-600s between MUC & SFO - these are very nice & quiet aircraft compared to a 747.
When I last flew LH (FRA-DEN in December) they are retro-fitting all A340s with screens in back of each seat - in one direction screens were there & in other there wasn't.

i took them from frankfurt and changed in philadelphia once. i'd say they're no better or no worse than any of the others. i think the only transatlantic flight i've ever been on that somewhat stood out was singapore airlines from fra to jfk. that really seemed a bit better than average, at least the food.
right now the best airline for me would be the one that's the friendliest in letting you stand up for long periods time in the galley area, drink lots of water, chat with fellow passengers and flight attendants, and not send you back to your seat. lufthansa was sort of ok in this respect. recently on a united 777 where it seemed the flight attendants were mostly british it was great though, they charged for alcoholic beverages, but there was basically a party going on in the back. i only drank water but it was a lot of fun.

I have done the Philly to Munich flight a couple of times on US Air. I think the biggest problem is the Philly airport. There is always a delay in Philly.
Their equipment seems to be crap compared to others, but their service, food, and drink seemed pretty good.

Hi All,
I was wondering if one of the many Americans on this website could help me.
On Friday i will be flying from Frankfurt to New York with US Airways. On there website it is a bit confussing so could anybody tell me, do i need to pay for my meal in cash on the plane?
If so does anyone know if they take Euros as i have no $ til i get to the US.
Thanks
Jodie

On transatlantic flights, they still give you free food. You have to pay for food on domestic flights within the US, though.
If for some reason they have recently changed this and are taking the further ridculous step of making you pay for food on transatlantic flihgts, they will take both Euros and Dollars, as they do for the booze and duty-free stuff. On domestic flights within the US, it will only be dollars, though.

hi jodie,
i'm pretty sure you won't get charged for any food on the transatlantic flight. i had a brief look at the website and it looks like they only charge for food on domestic flights. that seems to be the norm these days.

Thanks for your quick help i knew this was the right place to post, just hope the flight is better than the reviews on here.
By the way before they went out of business Royal Nepal airlines where the worst to fly with - put it this way landing and the gas masks falling down was a standard thing.

Be aware that United no longer dish out free (well, included in the price) food on transatlantic flights that go through Washington. Apparently for a 3 month "trial period".

Not surprised the way airlines are changing fast. KLM and Luft are my two faves although going through KLM last month KLM spokesperson told me to expect some changes at KLM soon. She said this when I complimented the great perks KLM had.
