Hello,

Would someone be able to point me in the right direction please.

I'm looking for the name of a local area map book (like the english A-Z) for Munich and surrounding areas. I find these books tend to have more local info than the maps on the net.

Thank you
Keydeck
You'll find one at pretty much any book shop. I bought quite a good one at Hoogie Doobie (Hugendubel) on Karlsplatz. Go there and I'm sure you'll find what you want. I can't tell you the name on the one I have as it's out in the car.

The brand to go for is KOMPASS.
They cost around 8 euro each and are GPS friendly.
They are kind of equivalent to the OS maps.

But for A-Z Street Directories, I use Google Maps

I like this map: A-Z street finder, plus lots of points of interest. Better than any book I've seen yet.

Hi,

Thanks for all the responses.

I should have said I'm not actually in Germany yet. So Keydeck I'd really appreciate the details of your book so I can order it direct from Amazon.de

I looked up Kompass but not being able to read German yet made it difficult. I'm really looking for a book I can flick through to get an idea of the areas not so much the navegation. Do Kompass do this?

Melia, I haven't got Java installed but my hubby is checking out the link you gave.

Thanks again.

The KOMPASS map comes with a small Lexicon booklet. Which contains information that I suppose is useful for hikers.

I just use these maps for planning walks/bike rides. And as they are GPS friendly I can pin-point my position on the map when I am out in the field with my GPS.

Sounds like these are not exactly what you are looking for,

Clutching at straws, have you used the Google Earth application (free, can download from Google). This contains a lot more information than just satellite images.
