not when ur not drinking for the rest of the month it isnt.
liutaia
What does drinking have to do with the sheer joy of spending time amongst this wonderful group of ladies and gentlemen?
anilsingh
hey people ! thanks for the company ! it was really good for a first time !! now would try to be more regular wink.gif
thetagirl05
So I know whoever was camped out with me in the corner last night heard me rant about what I'm about to say, but whatever, hear it again.

But guys, seriously, sign up. (I know if anyone from TT Tuesdays reads this, they'll say I never used to sign up... but suck it. I sign up now.)
As we were leaving the bar last night, the little delivery truck that brings you alcohol to parties was delivering more alcohol since the bar wasn't expecting 40 people to be there. Then someone had the audicity to say to me as we were leaving that 'thefirelane' has the responsibility to call the bar and say that 40 people were coming. You know what, no, that's not right.
Cause...
1- TFL has no responsibility to do that. He just gets us voting every week.
2- If he did call yesterday, it would have been for 11 people. (see the quote), 3 of which admitted during posting plans not to drink.

We have experienced this once before at Havana Club when 20-somethings was new. But then people got into the habit of signing up and we'd end up with lists of like 30. Good, great, fantastic. I'm all for meeting new people and honestly, everyone's welcome, but if you don't sign up then shut the fuck up when you have to wait 10 mintues for a drink because there is only one bartender and shut the fuck up about how the bar couldn't be prepared because 'someone didn't call ahead properly.'

QUOTE (thetagirl05 @ Feb 21 2008, 9:23 am) *
1. thefirelane - flaschenbar
2. liutaia - k&k klub was fun. I'm planning on coming, but it depends on my level of panic come Thursday, so we'll see.
3. nwhalen - flaschenbar if it is open
4. Element2082 - flaschenbar looks good
5. hobi316 - my next-to-last Thirsty Thursday event
6. nokareyes - somewhere new...flaschenbar sounds good
7. haidhausenguy - k&k klub
8. jonboy - k&k klub saw my jacket stolen, so i vote flaschenbar!
9. CanadianGal - I dont have a vote. whatever. as long as they have alcoholfrei beer right hobi?
10. Gingasnap24 - ...i'm one of those losers who never signs up but shows up anyway...*sigh* heeere i am.
11. thetagirl05- will be there, although not drinking.

Yeah, this came up at Negroni... I get really nervous about making any sort of firm reservations because we are such a fickle bunch by nature.

I don't fault people for not signing up however, lots of people prefer to remain anonymous or simply don't care enough... that's fine. To me, the sign-up sheet is simply for voting about where we'll be going.

Last night was a bit of an experiment... since only 11 people signed up, I thought it might be ok to try a smaller bar. Apparently that was a bit of a mistake. No big deal. As far as meetups go, we are still relatively new.

In the future, instead of requiring people to sign up, or calling ahead, we should restrict ourselves to places that can handle our group. X-club is a good example, so please try to limit yourself to places of equal or greater size when suggesting in the future.

Of course, the other problem is that if we choose a place that's too big, we'll loose or miss people. In the future, I'm going to try bigger places, but have a pre-meetup spot were we can all meet before going to the larger venue (we've done this before for things like Tollwood)... this works well for new people who don't recognize faces, and still allows regulars to show up whenever they want.

So, keep an eye out for places this weekend, and we'll see what we come up with next week.

Here's the criteria for a place so far:

1) Equal or greater size than X-club
2) No cover
3) Standing and drinking is the norm

edit: Does anyone happen to know if Atomic cafe meets #2 on Thursdays?
nokareyes
TFL, signing up is not only a way to vote but also a tally of how many people will be showing up. They do the same for Tuesday Night Drinks and it makes sense to do so. It also allows us to get to know new places based on the size of our group.
I get that there are those "count me in" posts. Just copy the list, add your name and paste. The end.

I agree with theta. We usually account for our "regular" group who come, but everyone should sign up. It's a lot easier to meet new people if there's enough room to do so as well.
anilsingh
I will try my best to sign up at least 2-3 hour before smile.gif
thefirelane
Sure, I agree... however for a lot of people in our "cell phone generation" deciding the nights activities goes along the lines of

1. Wait until that evening
2. See all available options
3. Decide what to do right before going.

Nothing wrong with that, its just how we are... so even if we would like people to sign up and confirm 24-48 hours ahead of time, I don't think its going to happen. That's fine, we just have to restrict the places we visit for Thursdays... there are still plenty that can cater to us smile.gif

Along those lines: I'm trying to get a list going about places we've been to, so we don't forget. Can someone supply a sentence or two for Flaschenbar and K&K Club? It sounds like Flaschenbar is a nice place, but too small for us.

From their website:
"unter der Woche (ohne Konzert) freier Eintritt bis 23h"

So basically, it's free entry until 11pm on weekdays.

Best to look pretty danged sharp on Thursdays too, since it's Northern Soul/Hip Hop night.
nokareyes
Then if you're not sure...sign yourself up as a maybe.

Good night, nice little bar and I do feel sorry for the lone-star barman inundated with our inebriated horde.

This was my second night for the meet-up on Thursdays, in case I missed something where exactly is the link in this thread to the sign up sheet? I have no issue signing up, I did so for Tuesday night but please make it clear where to do so. I'm guessing a few of the newer guys are in a similar situation not the knowing the past or present protocols.

Bring on the weekend. All the best.
RebellionLies
Erm, basically it's a list that gets carried through the thread. Not a full-on sign up sheet.

Though that would be an idea.

Then if you're not sure...sign yourself up as a maybe.

"Hi, I'm just calling to let you know a group will be meeting at your bar thursday, in case you want to increase staff for that night"
"ok, how many people can I expect"
"between 11 and 45 people"

wink.gif

ok, all kidding aside... we've done this enough that we've now got a feeling for how many people show up each time, regardless of the list size... it really isn't a big deal, we'll just choose appropriately sized places... and save the cool new places for the "secret 20-somethings illuminati meetup" wink.gif
nokareyes
you just copy the list, add your name, then paste. TFL always starts the sign up sheet when he makes the first post for the event.
thetagirl05
I agree with Noka. Sign up as a maybe. Or have someone add you as a +1 or something.

Sorry now for my earlier bitchiness. It's the lack of alcohol talking. smile.gif

Don't see why we should feel sorry for him for bringing him business. The bar is there to be occupied, the beer to be consumed. If everyone was being a patron and tipping when appropriate, then he has no reason to be anything other than happy.

That was easy enough to figure smile.gif

I thought the list was just a vote and suggestions for places to meet. If my number one choice is somewhere near my apartment, but is out-voted for somewhere out of my way then I'm less likely to attend. I then have to post again to say I won't be attending.

Can we not do something similar to the Tuesday night sign up?

he had to order alcohol from the alcohol delivery service...thus they made about 50% profit from their delivery to the bar and the barman paid about twice for the alcohol that he needed in the first place. He may have made more money than usual, but only half as much as he should have.

Then you can repost with your name crossed out.

Also, he probably couldn't pay as close attention as he wanted to the fast and the furious part 10 since he was so busy smile.gif

Good point, I forget people tip and he probably made a few bob. My drink went from €2.70 when I first ordered (so I gave him 3) to €3.00 the second time I ordered, no tip that time.
nokareyes
omg what WAS that movie??

sex, fire breathers, race cars and the advanced police work of the state of tennessee, what wasn't to love?

actually... I'm pretty surprised by the prices of these services. A case of Augustiner costs about 20EU, which is about what it costs at a store. Perhaps it would normally cost 50 cents a bottle (for a bar wholesale), and now costs him 1.00 ... but that isn't bad when a beer still is sold for 2.50+

Oh well.. again, no biggie, sign up if you want... it will be helpful, but I think we'll also all just have to choose larger places from now on.

Besides, when beer garden season opens up, this won't be a problem anyway (since each meetup will be next to my apartment at the Chinese tower wink.gif )

Also... if we got an official sign up, I'd lose my crushing executive power! smile.gif

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's not insult it by calling it Fast and the Furious part 10. It was 'Fast Track, No Limits' - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1043635/

Possibly the greatest movie ever. Fast cars, explosions, and the pure genius of having a girl signal the start of a race by taking off her top... Let no man say that the Germans lack creativity.

OMG, how did you know this was it?!?!?!?! Seriously, i love imdb as much as the next guy, but I would not have been able to locate that film!
modernclio
I missed the movie, just saw the thing with the people who were way, way, way too obsessed with their cats. I like cats as much as the next person, but why are we watching that when drinking? Fluffy kittens just don't put me in the mood to drink beer and listen to Wilson's jokes.

Hey, Stefan Raab invented the Wok-Weltmeisterschaft. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who brings this to the world can have as many damn cats on his TV show as he wants.
CanadianGal
that has to be one of the stupidest things ive ever seen.
def a guy thing.
thetagirl05
I agree with CanadianGal.
anilsingh
yeah the movie was cool and the people as well !! i just enjoyed !
