2- If he did call yesterday, it would have been for 11 people. (see the quote), 3 of which admitted during posting plans not to drink.
Yeah, this came up at
Negroni... I get really nervous about making any sort of firm reservations because we are such a fickle bunch by nature.
I don't fault people for not signing up however, lots of people prefer to remain anonymous or simply don't care enough... that's fine. To me, the sign-up sheet is simply for voting about where we'll be going.
Last night was a bit of an experiment... since only 11 people signed up, I thought it might be ok to try a smaller bar. Apparently that was a bit of a mistake. No big deal. As far as meetups go, we are still relatively new.
In the future, instead of requiring people to sign up, or calling ahead, we should restrict ourselves to places that can handle our group.
X-club is a good example, so please try to limit yourself to places of equal or greater size when suggesting in the future.
Of course, the other problem is that if we choose a place that's too big, we'll loose or miss people. In the future, I'm going to try bigger places, but have a pre-meetup spot were we can all meet before going to the larger venue (we've done this before for things like
Tollwood)... this works well for new people who don't recognize faces, and still allows regulars to show up whenever they want.
So, keep an eye out for places this weekend, and we'll see what we come up with next week.
Here's the criteria for a place so far:
1) Equal or greater size than X-club
2) No cover
3) Standing and drinking is the norm
edit: Does anyone happen to know if
Atomic cafe meets #2 on Thursdays?
