Hello
I'm new to this site, I've found out about it on a German forum I write in.
I currently live in Israel, and at fall will attend to my last year in High school.
I want to study in Germany, preferably Hamburg, because I have some relatives there.
I was wondering, how much does an apartment in the Uni campus costs?
I'm interested in going to Hamburg Uni, so if someone is attending there and has the info about this subject...
Thanks
miwild
The approx. 270 buildings of Hamburg University (40.000 students) are spread all over the city of Hamburg ... better ask your relatives for detailed information on what to do and where to live

heh, well the thing is that they are old, very old

I've read that an apartment at the dorms costs about 180 euro and that a regular rental apartment costs about 300 euros...
but after you guys said you pay 800 euros per month i'm not sure that the info is correct...
miwild
well .. "apartments at the dorms" are usually in short supply, i. e long waiting lists

... The Studierendenwerk owns 21 halls of residence with 3,723 places. This total in relation to the 62,000 students in Hamburg means there is a place for about 8,6 per cent

The monthly rent including heating, water, electricity, internet access and extra charges is currently 197,00 EUR for a furnished room in the Studierendenwerk's halls ...

The 800€ flats will be reasonably large (70m2) with two bedrooms and so would provide space for one in comfort and still be quite reasonable for 2 or 3 sharing. So per person the costs come down to the 200-400€ per month if you're happy to share.

The Abendblatt property pages will give you an idea of what private rented flats will cost http://immonet.abendblatt.de/

oh thanks^_^
I'm going with a friend of mine so I don't mind sharing smile.gif
I'll check those sites out once I finish working smile.gif
thanks!!
so...umm...
there's one more thing I'd like to ask...
I've heard that studying in german unis is free of charge.. at least was until now...
is it about 500 euros per semester?

Allgemeine Studiengebühren: 500 € pro Semester

I heard that the 500 Euro fee is applicable only after you have exhausted the maximum semesters allowed, for a basic degree of about 8 semesters. Not sure where to find official information.
berny
that is only true for people who were already in university when the fee came in. well, actually, they still have to pay the fee every semester, but if they finish their degree/magister/course within 5 semesters (or whatever the alloted time is for that course) the fees that they paid will be refunded to them.

people who applied/got accepted AFTER the fee was introduced have to pay it in any case.

General tuition fees in Hamburg

In connection with tuition fees, a distinction must be made between state and private institutes of higher education in Hamburg, as the rules differ in either case.

For state institutes of higher education, generally speaking the following contributions must be paid each semester:

* Semesterticket for the use of public transport, plus hardship fund
* Contribution to the Studierendenwerk (Student Services)
* A contribution to administration costs
* A contribution to student self-administration
* Tuition fees

At Universität Hamburg the total costs, at the summer semester of 2007, come to 740 euros per semester ...
