The entire Kosovan population of Munich, all twenty of them, are currently driving up and down Leopoldstraße.

Lots of flag waving and horn tootling going on.

I came back to Muenchner Freiheit somewhere midday, and there were a lot of people hunking their horns constantly. I went out again about an hour ago again, and it was still going on! What is going on down there??

Oh, I feel bad now. I was trying to get home after Doggy Play Day at Ostpark and I had a headache and Tobi didn´t like the honking, so I was glaring at all the people celebrating on Leopoldstrasse. I thought it was soccer or something unimportant *ducks*. If I´d known it was Kosovan independence I would have been more understanding! Should have asked what was going on-...

The flags should have given it away.

This photo isn't actually Munich, but it's very similar to what was going on in Munich. Namely people flying the Kosovo flag out of their cars:

Interestingly enough, quite a few U.S. flags were being flown as well. I guess in gratitude to the U.S. for booting the Serbs out back in 1999.

There are lots of Kosovars and other ethnic Albanians living in Munich actually. The red flag they are waving is actually the flag of Albania, since they haven't had a flag of their own until now. The new flag is blue with a yellow map of Kosovo in the center with 6 stars. The US has been the biggest supporter of Kosovo's independence and has pushed the UN to accept their independence. Most UN countries do. Russia and Serbia (obviously) don't. Germany has peace-keeping troops stationed in Prizren, Kosovo and is also considered an ally.

this should be under German news. happened yesterday in Mannheim too & i was likewise perplexed. boy do I feel dumb not recognizing the flag since i lived with a Kosovan Albanian for 4 years *pulls collar over eyes*

What I wish to know is why was my repply explaining your question deleted!
Albanians are celebrating an illegal move pushed by the US that will be sure to couse more bloodshed on the Balkans and everywhere throughout the world wehre there is a concentration ethnic minorities with goals of sucseeding.

In response to this unlawfull and unrighchous move the Serbs og Munich have organized a protes on Marienplatz this Saturday the 23rd.

See separate topic: Protesting Kosovo independence

Thanks for the warning, I'll be sure to avoid Marienplatz on that day.

I'm tempted to go get myself an albanian flag and go stand in Marienplatz, myself.

(Note to Bato: I was deeply involved in the slavic studies program (especially studying with a professor who specialized in the Balkans) in my first uni in the mid-nineties. You do not get to tell me that I am uneducated on this subject.)

Aelfwynn were you in any serb...albanian...macedonian territory...ever? Because who has changes his opinion...
