Hi;
Does any one know of some web site that can give services of cheap international calls around the world from gerrmany. Like there are services in UK and france.

France: http://www.telerabais.com
Uk: http://www.telestunt.co.uk/accessnumbers.php

The interesting thing is that you dial a toll free number and then choose the international number to dial and every month there are many countries that can be called at local call charges since they are using the cheap VoIP technology.
If anyone know of any such service in Germany do let me know ...

Hi,
Can anyone give any tips about the cheapest way to make International phone calls (from a landline)? I have just moved here from Australia - and so I call home a lot, and also England and Austria. Are there cards available with cheap rates or something?

If you have internet, check if Skype would be right choice for you.
YorkshireLad6
...not really true. Apart from the general hassle of having to use a PC and the often poor quality of calls, Skype isn't especially cheaper. While still quite cheap, to most US and European lines it's actually 50% more expensive than call-by-call from a German line. Skype (and others like it) comes into it's own when travelling. Find WiFi internet access and make calls FAR cheaper than any hotel or roaming mobile cost...

Hi,

I use speedworld.

Go into any of the shops around town selling phone cards. Ask if they have speedworld available.

They get on the computer and print out a slip. It costs about 5 euros. For the US, I get 500 minutes out of that 5 euros. From a land line to a landline. you dial a certain number, type in your PIN (printed on the slip they give you), then dial whomever you are dialing.

Sorry, I don't know if you are also charged by the german phone company, whatever it is called, for the minutes you are on the phone, or if it bypasses all that.

There is also speedeurope, etc. I use my card to call US and Japan. Different rates, but works great for me.

Anyone have experience with them and want to let me know I am paying bajillions for the "use of my telephone line" also, would love to hear it.

Otherwise I am happy as a duck in water.

I used to always use "01071" as it was only 6 cents per minute .. tried it tonight and it's gone to 1.18 Euros !! Quite a jump. I will try some others !!
YorkshireLad6
...I think you misheard or misunderstood, although you don't say where you are calling to. The most expensive call in the 01071 pricelist is to Cuba at 81 cents a minute. I suspect you heard "eins komma einundachtzig", i.e. 1.81 cents per minute (to UK). 01071 prices are, well, ok, but not the best...

Speedworld continues to be my answer. No charge per minute for use of the phone, just 500 minute per 5 euros. I called US using a SpeedEurope card once, and the voice told me I had 1000 minutes to use on my 5 euro card. Not sure it was a fluke, or they just don't expect you to dial the US on it...

My old landlord had a list of cheap prefixes to add before a phone number, giving calls to england for 0.9 cents per minute... the problem is, I have forgotten them, and didn't write them down! Does anyone know any of them? I know they are available for a whole range of countries, as he had them for England, America, Israel... etc! Thanks.

Hi,

In the uk we have something called telediscount where you dial a set number, and then the international number you want to call, and it results in only costing 1p/min. Does anyone know of a german equivalent? So that I can call the uk for 1 ish c/min??

Thanks!

There are approximately 400 call-by-call providers in Germany, which while that gives you MUCH more choice than the few in the UK, it does mean you need to keep ahead of continuous price changes. Current cheapest to UK is 010049 at 0.8cents/minute. Check www.billiger-telefonieren.de for comparisons to the place you are calling - one of many comparison sites.
Oh, one other thing - did you never learn to search this forum? Cheap telephony is all over it like a rash.
And if history repeats itself as it almost always does, the next post will almost certainly from someone (wrongly) recommending Skype as the cheapest way to call...

Hi, I see the amazing cheap rates listed on billinger-telefonieren, teletarif etc.
Unfortunately, my work phone does not allow me to call to any number beginning with 010..., which appears to be the case for all cheap calling services.
Another user suggested to use komserv.net (a 0180... number), which I'm currently doing, but it is a rip off (9 c/min to UK, 12 c/min to other countries).
Is there any really cheap service which does NOT use a 010... number?
Cheers
YorkshireLad6
It's possible (likely) that your work phone system is actually routing calls through low cost providers or VoIP services, or has an arrangement with their telecommunications provider for special rates. If you really want this then you'll need to use a call-through services (or calling card) but then youn pay the bill yourself.

don't use cloncom from a vodafone mobile, I did and lost out. Luckily it was only 10euro. It promised a 10c connection and then 1c per minute, but the 10euros only lasted 33mins!!! I think even though vodafone never charged me for the toll free call, cloncom charged more because it was from vodafone. Nothing about that in the terms though.
YorkshireLad6
Bear in mind that Cloncom don't provide any service themselves - they simply sell other peoples call support services on a commission basis... Which service gave the problem, and where were you calling to?
meikeerik
This is, of course, only an option if you are willing to change providers or already have Arcor as yours, but I pay only 4 Euros a month for unlimited calls to Western Europe, US and Canada. I'm really happy with it.

It was a TITAN card. From german vodafone prepaid phone to uk landline. Uding their toll free number. I mailed them to ask what the problem was but no reply yet. Vodafone never took any credit off my prepaid mobile. Do you think vodafone knows what the number is and makes TITAN charge more?

Does anyone know what is the best prepaid card for calling within Europe (Czech Republic, Russia)?

One that I can use by dialling up from home (or, at worst, from my mobile).

If you have a landline in Germany the cheapest way and by far the most convenient is to use a predial. To find the best one for your country, try billig-telefonieren.de for a rate comparison. The site is in German.
