Pride & Prejudice DVD night - Sunday 14.Nov.2004

Mr Darcy... need I say more?

Toytown Germany > Discussion forum > South Germany > Munich > Meetups in Munich
K1w1
OK, there is a Blackadder night, a Sex and the City night, an Indian curry night, so how about a Pride and Prejudice night?

Have just ordered the DVD from Amazon and happily await its delivery. For those unfamiliar with P&P, it's about 5 hours long and features a rather dashing scene of a younger Colin Firth diving into a pond in a white shirt...mmmmmmm...if you can't manage the whole movie that one scene is worthwhile...I don't have a location, but make a great tiramisu, anyone interested?
Showem
I might be up for this, if only to round out my cultural understanding of Bridget Jones.
Bubble Gum
I was about to say what showem just said!
UpQuark
I'm tempted to show up if only because I'm probably the only guy who really digs that series. Jennifer Ehle is HOT. Sense and Sensibility is one of my favorite movies, though I don't have it on DVD yet.
TexasTornado
count me in. I can offer a location come mid November
Caitlin
I'm soooooooo up for a P & P night... and if u can't wait for Amazon to deliver the DVD, I already have a copy of the series here in Munich (on VHS video). Yep, it was one of the ESSENTIAL items I packed in my luggage when I moved here. Quite tragic really. And not the best quality - the pond scene is starting to get a bit fuzzy, cos I've rewound it so many times. tongue.gif So let me know where and when this night is happening, and I'll be there...
bee_sting
ok - i admit it. i have these dvd's and watch them way too much, but would be up for watching my fav scenes with some folks. if anyone has the second bridget jones, we could do a reading of the Collin Firth interview before watching the lake scene.

i am so sad.
VDB
Pride and Prejudice is a nice one, might be up for watching it one time.
DrivinWest
I've got a projector at my place and I've never seen P&P so I may be up for hosting a few at my place.
chewy
Sounds cool, just started re-reading Emma, so im all in for the classics. (Especially if they have fit men in them!)
Caitlin
Ohmigod, I can't believe there are some English speaking folks out there who have never seen P & P (not any old version of course, just the version with our Colin in it). This night needs to get organised QUICKLY
Showem
Well Caitlin, I haven't SEEN P&P, but I have at least READ it. And Chewy, if you are reading Emma, you should see Clueless. Brilliant!
K1w1
OK, we have people up for the movie, people offering to let us bum in their living rooms and watch it, my tiramisu and Caitlins Anzac bikkies, when and where can we do this? mmmmmm...pond scene...
Kza
Oooo I had forgotten all about Anzac bikkies. If P&P wasnt such a chick flick I would probably turn up just for them tongue.gif
K1w1
KZA...how can you possibly be a Kiwi and have forgotten about Anzac bikkies? Awesome New Zealand Arse-kicking Cookies? Man, get your Mum to re package her red cross parcels...see you for P&P then.
Mbangura
Never, seen it, want to see it. Will be there (where)...with liquor of course.
Caitlin
OK, I'm glad that we've established that we all WANT to have a P & P night... so next on the agenda is getting the damn thing organised. When should we do it and where? Tash and I agree that that sooner rather than later would be good (not to mention necessary)... Let me know so I can start baking those Anzac bikkies ok.
dotchi
ooh I love it! most definatley up 4 this! smile.gif
Showem
If you guys can wait 2 weeks or so, I'll be willing to host it.
DrivinWest
I've got a projector rememeber! My place works but for only about 6 people (starts to get really crowded after that). All I need is a white wall and it'll work.
Showem
If you look at the pictures, you'll see that my place can easily hold 10 or more fawning females and the occasional male.
Kit Kat
Wow I can't believe I've only just noticed this thread...I'm so definately up for this biggrin.gif Let's have it soon whoever is hosting!
Caitlin
Ooh, it's almost like we've got a fight going on here over who's going to host our illustrious P&P night! Now, that IS exciting. So it's either Showem's place or Drivin West's - I'm not fussed, but I guess it depends on our numbers. Will we get more than 6 to a viewing of Colin Firth in his wet shirt??
Caitlin
Hi, our planned P&P night seems to have fallen off the agenda recently... And there's still a month left until the 2nd Bridget Jones movie hits our cinemas here in München... So how about we get this P&P night organised before we all die from Colin Firth Deprivation Disease. I know that Tash has organised the Neuschwanstein outing for Saturday, Nov 13 - would the following day (Sunday, Nov 14) be a good time for P&P? Or is that too much activity for one weekend? It seems that a lot of us work or have German classes on weeknights, so I thought the weekend might be better. If anyone has any other ideas, I'd love to hear them...
Kit Kat
Hello!!! I think the 14th Nov sounds good for the Pride and Prejudice night...seems to be several things planned before that anyway and wot could possibly be better than drooling over Colin Firth with a few drinkies on a Sunday wink.gif
Caitlin
I just saw the preview for the new Bridget Jones movie... Damn, Colin looks hot... But we still have to wait another month before the film hits our screens here. SO, let's organise this damn P&P night. Sunday, November 14th is good for me & KitKat at least - any other takers? And who's willing to host... Showem? DrivinWest? I know you guys were fighting over this priviledge a while back
K1w1
Have just come back from a hellhole known as the Czech Republic, the only thing that was keeping me going there was knowing that my P&P DVD should have arrived by now. It hasn't. So after I have posted this I will then start on an abusive email to Amazon demnding to know why Mr. Darcy has still not arrived. So if it has still not come by Sunday, can we use your video Caitlin? If it is a bit worn around the pond scene that is totally understandable...
Kit Kat
Oooh so is this definately happening on Sunday then??? biggrin.gif
NicNZ
I'm also keen. Have only seen P&P once. Can't think of much better to do on a (probably) snowy Sunday.
Badger
Me too. Gotta check this out; haven't seen it yet.
Showem
Hi guys. I still have the inlaws with me this weekend, so you'd best see if DrivinWest can host.

QUOTE
Firth Amused by Sex Symbol Status

British screen hunk Colin Firth is still baffled so many women found his Pride And Prejudice lake-plunge so sexy, nearly ten years after starring in the TV series. The Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason star leapt to international fame as aloof aristocrat Mr Darcy in the 1995 BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel, and won over an army of female admirers with his famous aquatic scene. Firth says, "I know that people did go mad and thought I was some kind of sex symbol, especially when I came out of the lake, but I'd never thought of myself as sexy. I still find it hard to believe. I thought it was a joke really. I still find myself wondering why anybody would find me sexy."

(imdb)

Just thought this would be interesting. wink.gif Cannot wait to see the film!
Badger
DrivinWest is in the US at the moment as far as I know.
Hellcat
hmmm. had to do a little research to figure out what all the ladies were in a tizzy about. i never really thought much of Colin Firth, but i'd like to see this "lake scene" for myself. wink.gif

i'm out of town this weekend, so if it's gonna happen another time, i'd be up for it.
JoolyBooly
well hey, if you're homeless I could host it, either this Sunday or on the 21st. I'm here both weekends.

I don't have photos but we hosted a football match with 10 people in the spring, so it'll be cosy but possible to fit that many in...

I live in Laim, next to the nr.19 tram stop and 5 mins walk from the U5. Let me know!
K1w1
OK, the deal is that the dumb folk at Amazon are still processing my order (?) two weeks after I placed it. They say they have the DVD and then they say they don't and now they do. So Caitlin has it on video, do you have a VCR Jooly?

Snow, Sunday arvo, Anzac bikkies, Colin Firth, pond scene, sounds perfect!
JoolyBooly
I have a VCR (German type) and my flatmate is away so ... wey hey, Stürmfreier Buder! (sp?)
Kit Kat
Cool, so is this happening this weekend or next? UUUUmmmmmmmmmmmmm Colin Firth wink.gif
chewy
Date and time please...
..with this and bridget jones, we seem to be starting up the Munich Colin Firth Fan club!
nilpferd
i'd be in for this! can't call myself a true bridge fan otherwise!
Kit Kat
Woohoo Colin Firth fan club...great idea chewy! wink.gif
JoolyBooly
OK, then let's make it 7pm this Sunday (early enough for work Monday then).

The only deal is, my flatmate has removed all the dining chairs as his gf needs them next week. But I have a sofa, 2 armchairs and a mattress we can put down, will be fine.

I'll provide some snacks and a bottle of something, but bring stuff if you're keen, fussy or if you like non-alcoholic drinks.. the only option in my home is booze, water or tea rolleyes.gif

Address:
Friedenheimerstr. 31, Laim

PM for my mobile nr.

Directions to get there:
Tram: take 19 direction Pasing, get off at Agnes-Bernauer-Strasse, cross the road to the bank and go around the corner. I live above the bank.
U-Bahn: Take U5 direction Laimer Platz, get off at Friedenheimerstr, head north towards Agnes-Bernauer Strasse (so past the row of shops and the Sparkasse, the Apotheke is on the wrong side of the road). 5 min walk to the next big junction (you'll go past a bakery on the left, a restaurant on the right, then at my junction there's a Tengelmann car park)

Doorbell: Decraene / Wissel / Stuart-Smith

walk through the back, along the garden path to the blue door, and I'll buzz you in. First floor.

So K1W1 you're bringing the video, right?

We are going ice skating in the afternoon, so if you want to come earlier (or come skating then come back with us) let me know, no probs.
nilpferd
i won't be able to make this week cos am working in The Arc...but have fun and a drool for me.
JoolyBooly
btw. can you post or PM me to confirm you're coming? Then i know how much stuff to buy and seats to free up
chewy
If your going to P and P and Bridget Jones, Jooly said she'd kindly collect ticket money, 7€ i think. but to be confirmed when cinema reply to my email.
Caitlin
Hi Jooly, I'm bringing the video (it's a VHS PAL copy, so should work fine on a German VCR)... Sadly, Amazon are still screwing Tash around so here DVD hasn't arrived yet. I'm also gonna bring along some Anzac bikkies if I can locate some golden syrup before Sun. What a perfect arvo... I'll be heading along to the ice skating frist, so will meet up with some of you there, then we can enjoy masses of Colin and masses of sugar in the evening. Perfect. Mmmm...
JoolyBooly
cool! Will see you at ice skating then biggrin.gif
Caitlin
Um yeah, one more question... How will I know who to look out for at ice skating? I'm yet to meet any TTers in person, so dunno if I'll recognise you all at the rink.

I'll be the one with my own hockey skates, short hair (no doubt adorned with sexy earmuffs, grwwl) and my battered old P&P video. Ooh, and bikkies.
Topsy
hi, butting in here, really, cos I'm not going going to the P&P do, or anything - but the tickets for BJ cost €8 just in case you're taking along the cash for the tickets
JoolyBooly
wow, that's cheap for 2 films, cool! Thanks Topsy. We'll see you Sunday anyway, I guess!
