A 1gig ram chip for a macbook can be had from amazon.de for about 20 euro. I went to a small computer store the other day, and they wanted 45! Since I need two chips, this price is quite ridiculous. Does anyone know of a near-wholesale price memory outlet in berlin? I would rather buy stuff in person so i can easily bring it back if it's defekt. Even if it's slightly more expensive than Amazon, the convenience of location and face to face contact is worth it.
Or, more generally, a large electronics store (like Fry's in california) would be awesome, just to browse around in. Media Markt is the closest thing I've found so far, but their prices are generally on the high end...

I have often found that Media Markt is at the high end of the price range & certainly not "Sau-billig"...

Buying online is sometimes a much better option.
Have a look here:
www.alternate.dewww.snogard.de
www.bauers.comwww.litec-computer.de
or use the German version of the Google "Froogle" product finder..

I buy most of my computer parts online via suppliers listed this price comparison site which include those Darkknight mentioned:
www.hardwareschotte.deSome of the shops are in Berlin, so you can call them and pick up although I have noticed a tendency for a couple of suppliers to list things at very low prices, which are still available when you phone but when you get to the shop shortly later - they are sold out, but can we offer you this somewhat more expensive option, sir..

sorry to tell you, a place like fry's does not exist here in berlin. i've been here for 1.5 years and have been to nearly a dozen computer shops now. i have found them all to be understocked and overpriced. you are much better off using the above recommended price search engines and buying online. i use this one for computer hardware the most, but also check the others mentioned:
http://www.preistrend.de/there isn't any definitive computer hardware search engine like pricewatch in the USA. and btw, the only large store i've found with prices that won't make me vomit is MediMax. forget about Mediamarkt, Saturn and Conrad.

Yeah, I think you're probably right, fuduf, I'll stop hoping for Fry's... for things like the berliners just don't get it.. i can spend a lot of time and money in frys .. and home depot ("home cheapo") for that matter . thanks for all the links people. hopefully someone finds this thread useful

i just got 2 gigs put in my macbook and they gave me the one they took out of mine. i asked them what i should do with it and they said to sell it or something so if you want to take it off my hands, i'll sell it to you for normal price (20 euros). 45 euros is way too expensive.
Also try
www.acom-pc.de (in Wilmersdorf) and
www.kmelektronik.de (in Charlottenburg & near Alexanderplatz)

http://www.preistrend.de/The staff of these places are often incredibly rude as well. Or is it just the infamous Berliner Schnauze... Whatever it is it comes across as very abrasive and customer-unfriendly.
