Intel, the world's biggest computer chipmaker, has been raided by European Union competition regulators, Reuters news agency has reported.
A spokesman for Intel told Reuters the investigation took place at its premises in Munich in Germany.

Story here: Intel 'raided' by EU regulators

They also Raided the HQ of MediaMarkt. You can prob. guess Saturn is prob. one of the "Unnamed" stores, as both MM and Saturn are owned by Metro-AG

EDIT: oops.

I prefer AMD anyways. Intel are to chips as microsoft are to OS's. Though I still like IE over firefox.

Unnamed? Financial Times Germany printed an article as long ago as August 2006, describing claims of shenanigans with Intel and Media Saturn Holding (=Media Markt and Saturn), where Intel and MSH signed a clandestine exclusivity agreement involving the handover of wodges of cash for every Intel computer stocked, and in return MSH ceased stocking computers with AMD processors. When confronted, MSH claimed that the complete lack of AMD processors in all their branches was mere coincidence. (Allegedly, MSH had already approached AMD proposing that AMD should start a "Market Development Fund" to promote PC sales (and pay MSH a bounty for every AMD PC sold) but AMD's offer of up to €55 per stationary PC and €20 per laptop was obviously not attractive enough.) Apart from the illegality of the proceedings in the first place, AMD complained that MSH had used them to leverage higher payments from Intel. Baddies all round.

What?

AMD, hasn't released a decent chip since the X2 series.. They used to be on top of the game back in the day, but got all high and mighty
while Intel not only caught-up, but threw AMD off the mountain top..

Example: While Inel has had quad core chips for some time now, AMD only had dual core. They have tried to make a quad core
chip but have failed. They can't figure out how to do it. So what do they do? Announce a Tri-Core chip, and state that "Nobody really needs quad core anyway"...

Today, AMD = Crap
Intel = Is da'shit..

Compare price for perfomance, AMD beats intel every time. If you're rich, sure, go intel.

Dude what rock you been hiding under? Go off and read some of the many AMD vs Intel reviews all over then net..
AMD's newest CPU "Phenom", is way late to the Quadcore game, is still an under performer compared to the Intels quad core offerings, hell even
some of the Core 2 Duals still whoop Phenom's ass.. At an avg. price of 230 Eur its also overpriced (Cost/performance ratio) to intel's offerings.
Save your $ and buy an Intel C2D 8400 (2x3Ghz) for around 170 Eur or a Core 2 Quad 6600 (4x2.4Ghz) for 220 Eur.

Both of these chips are cheaper than the AMD offering and will smoke AMD's chips in performance..

Even when you compare the current Athalon X2's to the current Core2 chips, the C2D are usually cheaper than the X2's (Or a little more, but not much)
and have better performance. (Better power savings/management too)

Do AMD's chips still suck more power so make cooling more difficult too?

Compared to Intel C2D and C2Q I believe they do..

However, I never buy top-of-the-line, can't afford it.

My computer is four months old and I certainly wouldn't need quadcore. I have an X2 6000+ X2. If you look at the reviews (the above is just one), it all depends on the vid card. I prefer ATI, so I'll go with AMD, thanks. Also, for the record, my X2 was nearly €100 cheaper than the comparable Intel, just 4 months ago. Considering the total cost of the computer was under €500, that was too much.

Intel Skull Trail boards arn't even avail. yet. Their still in the testing phase. Granted right now these testing boards suck, however they are not whats actually
going to be released. You can bet there are going to be many fixes before they are officially released.

AMD's Spider platform is also not avail. for general consumption yet. Hell the new Phenom chips arn't avail in big numbers yet. If you can even find them.

Both of these systems are marketed for the Elite Ubergamer. Both Intel and AMD have stated that these platforms will be out of reach (Cost wise)
to all but the most serious big money gamers. They are not marketed for general home/office use. In the above posts i laid out the current market
for the avg. home/office PC. Which is the biggest PC market going.

But hey..if you want, lets not stop with the 4k Eur Ubergamer systems. .Lets compare LINPACK results from Intel and AMD Supercomputers wink.gif

PS: 4 months in the PC world might as well be a decade in Human terms. Prices drop all the time. I could prob. build your PC again today
for 200 Eur less than what you paid for it 4 months ago. And SkullTrail/Spider are "Over" top of the line.. Way over..

serious big money gamers

I'm just trying to wrap my brain around that one...

Well, I know several guys that spend half their damn yearly incomes just keeping their PCs up to date for their boring games.

In the end any enjoyment in playing the game comes second to the little FPS counter somewhere on the screen. On the other end of the spectrum I'm trying to scratch some further useful life from a 147MHz Pentium I laptop with 32Mb RAM, to use it for playing internet radio streams. It works too, with just a few gremlins still to iron out.

@HA
If it has a PCMCIA Slot, throw in an old Lucent WLAN card and turn it into a netstumbling rig..

Okay, admittedly I don't follow the EU commission closely but does it seem like the EU is going after non-EU companies in general? I mean I haven't seen any investigation into Siemens as an example. I really hope this is just my not reading news frequently enough. Does anyone follow this close enough to know?
