Cycling partners sought / bicycle touring

I need to find myself some cycling friends - I'm riding London-Paris in the summer and have to get myself back(?) into shape.

So if anyone wants to arrange a few rides with me, get in touch. I want to ride my road bike for a few hours at the weekends when the sun is out (like today). But without company I'm fairly useless at getting out there.

What is 'not-hard-core' ...distance or average speed wise?

I did 102km (63mi) today, it was lovely out there

Mostly average speed wise, - my stamina is not too bad, but fitness needs work. (A third ring would help on the hills!). In days gone by I'd enjoy being out for 3 - 4 hours, covering about 30 - 40 miles (usually including a refreshment stop).

I wish I had gone out - but as I said, - I'm completely spineless without company.

When the cross-country ski season is over (from Easter) I'd be happy to meet up for some cycling.
There are a few routes to the north of Munich which are fairly light on traffic and allow 40 - 60km rides (or further) and the area between Amersee and Starnbergersee is also nice.
After my experience on the road up to Spitzingsee I am more than happy that I have a triple on my bike.

Keep an eye on the triathlon thread too - there may be some posts about group rides there.

Hey Libs, I'd love to go biking around here some. I have a one speed bike, so hills are out, but we're pretty close to one another, so after the week from hell is over, we should get out some. and then sing. and then bike and sing and drink all at once? that sounds good... though it might be hard to get that peeana of yours onto a bike while steering the bike, peddling, playing, holding it in place, and drinking the wine... well, we can sort that one out after the hell-spawn week is gone.

We´re off for a ride at about 11:30. Start in Schwabing, will be about 2 hours or until our toes freeze off (whichever happens first). Anyone wanting to blow a few cobwebs away is welcome to join us. I´ll check this thread again before I set off.

We´re cycling again this afternoon. Start in Schwabing at 13:30 ish and heading north. Total ride about 55km, fairly flat.
It´s not even cold today.

It was great out there today Like Spring. Got about 110km in on the 'best-bike' (for Roth IM), hardly any wind either, ideal.

I hope you guys got out...if not, shame on you

If anyone is up for long rides from Easter onwards, let me know. Av Spd 20-21 mph for 100km plus (wind/hills permitting!)

I too have been skiing every Saturday and then putting in my time running on Sunday. But I would love to go on a bike ride with someone else. I too need others to get me out there! Haven't done much cycling lately, but I did ride 25 miles a few weeks ago and nearly froze my toes and hands off! That was not fun. I am not used to cycling in such COLD conditions!

Love to meet up some time when we can guarantee there will be sun! I am looking into riding from Passau to Vienna, or at least as far as I can ride in a long three day weekend. Has anyone ever done this ride? Any tips?

Meet somewhere like Michaeilibad, then ride to Aying, some refreshment, then back to Munich. 60km round trip. Flat ride no hills.

We did. See posts #6 and #7. I imagine I will be on my bike again before April - although looking out of the window, it might be safe to wax my skis again.

Look forward to meeting up another time for a ride. But I too have either a road bike, which I prefer to ride, or a mountain bike. I however have not been training on my trainer! So I am a bit worried that I will be at the back of the pack bringing up the rear!

The pace is at the pace of the slowest rider, meaning when there is a turning, I will wait, I don't want anyone becoming lost.

I carry some basic tools to deal with punctures.

And if there are any problems, then the S-Bahn is nearby

The overall distance is 60km.

But if you join this ride, then you joint at your own risk.

I feel the need to test out my new boot covers and I think tomorrow will be suitably cold.

Shame; you could've tested them out with me today. Nice bit of hail in to a headwind to keep me awake, it was the first time I've used the shoe covers for a few weeks. It's almost as bad as Dec/Jan out there again; I remember the last weekend in Feb was almost like summer...'go figure'

Sorry, I had an urgent appointment with some very nice roast lamb yesterday. The weather looks much nicer today, so we´re heading off as soon as we have got our bikes sorted out. Anyone else want to come along?

I would be interested in riding from April onwards, I usually go about 60-100 km @ 23-25 km/h average. So I guess I could join Bron and libby. I'll check the thread regularly.
Road only for me as I only have a crappy road bike with flimsy wheels.

I would also be interested in joining, last year was doing some good distances, this year still need to do some work..

Am thinking about this Sunday 30th. Would like to go from town (but am flexible) down to Tegernsee/Bad Tolz, via Wolfratshausen or Dietramzell.

With the clocks changing, short after-work rides will be possible too soon, if anyone is interested.

I'm still going riding Sunday, taking the s-bahn out to Wolfie, people can join that if they want, but its going to be muddy, and I plan to do some recce as well.

I'm cycling road and off-road so this looks like MTB stuff? I'll also be on for 6th April then bring my MTB. Would also prefer a road ride but weather looks bad also...

The plan is to take the SBahn from OBF out to Ebenhausen, then cycle along the Isar to Wolfrathausen, then cycle from Wolfrathausen to Starnberg. The bit between Wolfrathausen/Starnberg is where I am doing the reccee. I have no idea of the condition of the path.

I just got a road bike and I'm looking for people to go riding with or some tips on good cycling routes. I live in the Poccistr. and I don't really like biking in the city and have found a lot of the bike trails aren't paved. Is my only option taking the S-bahn?

We've got a similar thread going on here. I'd love to join you on some riding out of the city. I'm a little tied up for the next couple of weeks, but I'll try to organise something as soon as I can...

The weather forecast for Sunday looks promising. We're thinking of heading south and cycling somewhere in the area between Starnbergersee and Ammersee.

The deal: racing bike tour, 60-100km with rolling hills, start on Sunday morning, maybe a cake stop at the end.
One possibility is to start in Munich, see how far we can go and then get the train/S-bahn back.

Maybe it would be a good idea to start a separate thread for off-road tours?

Lets make it specific for racing bike as this one looks more for mountain bikes. Its a good idea!

Well we had a nice 105 km round trip with a stop for some Bavarian isotonic sports drink (non-alcoholic, of course). The whole world and his wife was out on bikes today.
I´d like to cycle again next Sunday, weather permitting.

My preference is to ride on Saturdays and hike on Sundays, but I expect the next few Saturdays to be eaten up by Apartment Hunting. During that time, I'll likely ride on Sundays. I'm not very fast (check out the motion-based log for today's ride), and am much more interested in beautiful scenery than I am in going fast.

I can't make mid-week cycling for the next 2 weeks (8am to 5pm classes), but this Sunday's forecast looks great again. Who's up for a ride? I was thinking about hopping on a train to Garmisch and riding back to Wolfrathausen via Mittenwald on a day ticket. (100km) Anyone else up for that? (I'm open to better suggestions as well!)

Probably can´t make Sunday which is a shame as that looks like a nice ride. 1st May depends on Mr Bron´s road rash.

That sounds like a fantastic ride. Just a question - what sort of bike are you using for this, in case anyone decides to try this one again?
The Leutasch valley is also great for cross-country ski-ing in winter.

I'm riding a sport touring bike with 25mm tires at the moment. There was no unpaved roads in this ride to speak of. I encourage you to download the GPS track and attempt this ride. It was beautiful!
