Finding a short-term apartment rental in Ulm - Germany

Advice, especially for non-German speakers
Beardie
I've been trying to find a flat/apartment in Ulm for short term rental (now until July) and I've been contacting agents via the web. I tried phoning a few but most responded that they couldnt speak English - so those were short conversations. I switched to the web and tried to use one of those translation engines (with an explanation that the bad German was because of this).

To say that any responses have been slow in coming is a understatement - this despite finding houses on the web and responding to those links directly. I had originally begun by looking for something for my entire family (who are due to come out in July), and that also was slow... I'm beginning to wonder how agencies in Germany make any money if they dont bother responding to those pesky annoying nuisances called customers... smile.gif

Is there another way? Its becoming incredibly frustrating.

Well, to be fair, a foreigner who speaks no German and is only here for a few months is hardly their idea of Christmas coming early. A better option might be one of the relocation agencies that advertise on Toytown.

I see what you mean.

The thing is though, I only want the short term let for myself until the summer. In the summer the whole family move across and I'll be looking for something more permanent.

You could try the Mitwohnzentrale.

EDIT: It's an agency for short-term rent.

Are there any agencies with places intended for short-term letting in Um? Since you're only looking for a few months, such companies would be well used to people in your situation.

Most of the landlords or agencies with standard advertisements want tenants to stay for a much longer time. If you're lucky you can find someone who is travelling for a few months and only wants to rent for a short time, but you would have to be lucky.

Also, the fact that you don't speak German means it is more hassle for the agencies.

It may be simpler to look for that more permanent place straight away. Looking for somewhere to live is such a hassle that I really wouldn't want to subject myself to doing it twice in the space of six months.

Hi,

Not sure if you know already, but there is a place in Ulm, called "The Comfor Hotel".

The link you need to the website is: http://www.comfor.de/comforBlaubeurer/englisch/index.html

Not sure if it will be very economical or not, and maybe you could find somewhere cheaper. I just heard about this place, as an english speaking friend stayed there, while they were looking for somewhere more permanent.

The good thing is, this website can also be in English, and it mention's something about special condition's for longer stay's!

I wish you all the best of luck, and hope you find somewhere decent soon!

I go to that sort of area for gliding holidays in the Summer. Either Oppingen airfield or in the past has been Blaubeuren which isn't far from Ulm.

We (several individuals) always stay in flats/appartments/rooms in Bad Ditzenbach. Its a bit of a sleepy Rentner/Kurort but we manage to stay there pretty cheaply & seems that some people on several months works contracts do similar. If you have a car I'd be guessing its a 25-35 minutes drive.

The tourist/info place can send a brochure of places.

Our experience is that such accommodation on the Ulm side of the Alb is twice the price.

Hi, I rented a 3-room apartment from a German owner, and there is one vacant room. If you are interested, just give a ring. Thank you. My number is 0176-45081406, Thank you.
