Hi Folks,
The weather seems to the pretty ok this weekend so I want to go on a long drive and enjoy the good weather. I want to leave on saturday morning, night stay in some village, and come back on sunday . Can somebody suggest any good routes / places to see? Are there any mountain passes which are open during winter (I mean this weekend). I did check out the following threads and have got a bit of info, but just checking if some of you others have info to add !!

Weekend road trips in the Bavarian mountains

Road trips to Italy or southern France

Thanks in advance

Check the Ettal pass. Its kooL. From there, it leads to Linderhof and then passes thru the Austrian border 'til Neuschwanstein. Its very scenic and beautiful (be it summer or winter) . This is a small road (between the mountains) and hence it gives an impression of being in the middle of nowhere. When you cross the Austrian border, you will come across a huge lake called 'Plansee'. I guess its still totally frozen and you can skate on that or walk around. Its location is good too, calm and peaceful. (Note : Check the weather, as the road maybe closed sometimes due to bad weather/land-slides/avalanches, etc stuff). Also, for your stay : Check 'Ettal'. It has a famous Bavarian monastery and near to the that, on the edge of a mountain, sits a hotel. I liked it better than Garmisch hotels.

Gute Fahrt! wink.gif
