Open invitation for weekend trip "La Route du Vin" - Frankfurt

Rhein-Main to Alsatian wine country
DanHessen
I've just been notified I've got a kid-free weekend coming up. Thinking of getting the heck out of Dodge. Anyone interested in a border raid on our neighboring countries?

Ideas: Amsterdam, Brussels, could pick up some interest from Köln Düsseldorf TTers
France, Metz, Nancy, Strasbourg, Colmar, etc, could maybe interest some MA/HD/Stuttgart TTers.

Other suggestions welcome. Any interest?

Amsterdam is definitely off. If anyone is interested in a shorter jaunt I'm heading to Alsace Fri-Sat. Overnighting in Strasbourg Fri night. Spending Sat seeing La Route du Vin (Mittelbergheim, Riquewihr, Ribeauville, etc. maybe Colmar). Heading back in time for the Darmstadt-Griesheim meetup Sat evening. Anyone wants to come along, let me know.

I'll leave this up as an open invite to repeat sometime when it gets warmer. Riquewihr (pictured) is a ridiculously well-preserved Medieval town. Kind of like Rothenburg, but better. The wine route goes through 60 wine villages along the foothills of the Vosges Mountains. Good food, good wine, nice scenery, castles, good hiking, and it's not far from Rhein-Main, HD, MA, etc.

For those with kids, there are some really cool things for kids to do in the area. Aside from the castles, my kids enjoyed these two (near Kintzheim)

So if anyone is interested in a weekend trip (preferably before the tourist hordes in Summer), drop me a line.

If you ever extend this to a weekend I may be interested, but one day along this route is simply scraping the surface. I usually drive this way to and from the outlaws in Switzerland, have been doing so 15 years, and have still only just begun to get to know the place. Incidentally, I think the wines are good but seriously overrated in relation to the price during the last 20 years.
