I just received a form from the US that I need to have notorized and sent back to the US by Feb 29. Does anyone know where I can find a Notary Public?? Do they have them in Germany? Or something equivalent?
Thanks,
Debbie
Thanks! I really appreciate it!

RDW, depending on what you are notarizing a U.S. entity/government may not except a notarization from a German Notar. In that case, the simplest thing (though not the easiest) is to go to the American citizen services area at the Berlin embassy and get an American notarization. But, that's a hike.
Another route which is not so simple, but perhaps easier, would be to visit the German Notar, then go get an Apostille on it. Don't know what an Apostille is? Hey, you're trying to live internationally so you need to learn this stuff. :-) Check Wikipedia.
You can get the Apostille from the Landesgericht. The Notar should be able to give you the office room number and hours of operation. Don't forget to take both your passport AND your receipt from the Auslaenderbehoerde that shows you registered your residence - when I went one time the bureaucrat was shocked and amazed that I had the temerity to show up with only a driver's license. She wanted proof of my Dresden address... Why? Because she had a form to fill out. I can't imagine they would refuse tourists an Apostille...
Anyway, be sure what you are getting is going to make the person in the U.S. happy before you bother with it.
Thanks, It's just to prove I'm living and breathing for my pension back home. I had it notarized by a lawyer here in Dresden. I sent it off already so I hope that they accept it. we'll see...if that doesn't work I guess I'll go to Berlin.
