Bad gaming ping

Got me a 1mb t-online dsl line and decided to start playing counter strike and tfc again. But my ping is around 90-110. I had a 1mb dsl line in england and pinged at 40. I hear the difference could be due to a difference in error checking over here.

I hear you can purchase something called fast tracking to up your upload. Has anyone who plays online gaming done this and if so does it improve there pings?

Cheers

Any other tips on lowering ping/lag would be greatful.

Well generally a ping of 90ms is still acceptable, I just would not worry about it. When I ping using our internal network a host in Brazil I get 150ms, and we run time-critical applications over this !

I have 2mb t-dsl with fast path. I get a ping of 20 to some CS:Source servers.

If you dont have fast path, then get it.

What is fastpath?!?!

Telekom turn of the error checking, so it speeds up the time it takes to send the packets. Some people cant get it, if they are too far away from the main telekom hub. I dont know of anyone, however, in Munich that couldnt get it.

Fastpath, which decreases your reaction (ping) time by reducing error checking, and is often required for online gaming costs €24,99 one-time setup fee, plus €0,99/month. You can get more details and order it online here

Availability on your line depends on your distance from the local phone exchange and the noise levels on the line. After you request it you get an email from Telekom with an activation link which checks your line prior to committing to its provision.

Fastpath has nothing to do with which Internet provider you use and must be ordered anew if you change linespeed (e.g. move from T-DSL-1000 to T-DSL-2000)

Note that Fastpath can sometimes actually reduce download times as data packets may need regular re-transmission if they are arriving corrupted.
