Anybody up for a day trip to
Neuschwanstein in a couple of weeks? Have no idea how to get there, where it is or how much it will be, but if there are other people out there pining to visit fairytale castles, let' go!

oooh, I went there for the first time this Saturday, it was beautiful! Would be lovely to go again when there's a lot of snow...it's so fairytale like! It's about an hour and a half's drive south west of here, right on the border with Austria. We went in a car, but apparently there is a train...
I'd be up for going back, especially if there's snow!
but I feel I must warn you in advance that I will spend the whole journey there singing:
"Oh you pretty Chitty Bang Bang,
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
We love you.
And, in
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
What we'll do.
Near, far, in our motor car Oh what a happy time we'll spend.
Bang Bang Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Our fine four fendered friend"
TAXI!!!

don't leave it too late as I think it closes when the weather gets too bad, as there is a steep slope up the mountain , too steep for the bus.

I might be interested in going, I've never been

a view from the castle...

haven't been there yet, although by now i can dream the view with all those pictures people have been showing me...
I would say pick a day and I'll see if i've time to come along. If you wait a couple of weeks you'll have the added benifit of seeing Neuschwanstein in the snow, which should also be pretty cool.

it is open all year round but the bus isn't running if the road is to icy. U still can walk, whoch is not really bad or take the horse drawn coach. For further details just do a quick search

The way up is not 40 minutes at all (which is printed everywhere), we did it in not even 20 minutes last week. Maybe when it's icy it'll take a bit longer, but it's not a steep hill anyway.

OK, have decided to try and put a bit of organisation into my rather muddled life and have actually looked at what going to Neuschwanstein entails. Personally I just want to put on a pretty dress, run down the grand staicase and dance through the halls...honey, it aint gonna happen...
SO, admission is 9 Euros, bus uphill/downhill 1.80/1.00 Euro, horse drawn carriage 5.00/2.50 Euros (ooh yes, ooh yes!), walking is free. Then remains the question of getting from Munich to the castle, good old DB, cars, magic carpet or what, any ideas?
Was thinking of Saturday 13 November as a possible day to go, in 3 weeks time. Or perhaps closer to snow time. It would be gorgeous to leave the castle as the sun was setting and watch it as we trooped down the hill...sigh...I am a hopless romantic. Anytime we go, it's still gonna be pretty cold so I say a few drinks after to warm up and discuss which stable boy we would have ravaged if we were Lady of the castle...

Wow, I thought I was the only hopeless romantic on the board,

, i think it would be nice to go when there is snow. The thing about carriages is that, well, horses stink and that gets in the way of enjoying the moment.

This has been on my to do list for a long time now and would love to go. PM me when you have more info.

I'm definately in. I went there in April and its where my boyfriend and i got together so sign me up to the hopelessly gogo eyed, romantic bunch of travellers.
We were advised that going by DB was difficult, so we hired a car and found that a really good option. Especially as there's all sorts of picturesque places around that area to stop at.
@ Kiwi - I like the idea of horse carriages, very romantic and would certainly be up for that. And by the 13th of November the change of having snow in the mountains is relatively high so that would be a good time to go.
Admission prices are by the way pretty steep considering that everybody i know of getting into the castle was disappointed about the inside.

If you go, you have to check out the PfarKirche (church) in the valley. The place is just amazing with its paintings and decor. Worth a fortune!

So are you guys still interested in going? November 13th (Samstag) looks like the date, hope it fits and if so PM me so we can get the entrance tickets before hand. Have had a look at the DB website, it looks relativly easy to get to by train and with a Bayern ticket looks pretty cheap. Ooh, can't wait, am ironing my long frilly dress as we speak (type?)!!!

OK, the people who have said they want to do Neuschwanstein are:
Me (K1w1)
Eric the Hamster
Chewy
VDB
Winegirl
Mbangura
Bubblegum (if there is snow)
Nilpherd (if there is snow)
Pepper
Dotchi
SteveNZ and a carload of Aussies (maybe)
Anybody else want to come or is there anyone here who now doesn't?
There is a train leaving Munich Hbf at 9:51 (yup, sorry that's am), because we still have to get to Neuschwanstein that seems like the best time to leave, so we can still rock on up to the castle and dance through the halls for a decent amount of time... ist das OK?

I also hav a car to take some of us over there, but unfortunately I won't be in Germany on the 13th!
sounds like fun. would love to go. still planning on taking the 9:51am train?
woooh it's snowing... Horse carriages in the snow to neuschwanstein, now if that wouldn't make a pretty picture i don't know what else would.
so the 9:51am train at Hbf then. Where do we meet up front, at the ticket machines int he main hall?

Hey, i dont know where K1W1 is (if you're therei dont want to tread on ur toes), but i would say we should go with VDB's suggestion of meeting at the front ticket machines at hauptbanhof. If we say everyone to meet at 9:30 we can buy the tickets at 9.35 and head over to the platform together. That gives up 15 mins Toytown in case of emergency coffee requirements, people getting lost etc. Michelle, georgie and i should all arrive together, and wild horses wouldn't keep me away.
Any problems people can always call/txt me on my mobile 015202-110-782.

Um, yeah, sorry, I know I am real slack. I have been in the Czech Republic and if you ask "well don't they have computers in the Czech Republic?" then the answer is, if you would like your computer to have all the keys and take less than half an hour to send an email, then NO!
The time is perfect, not too sure where the meeting place is though, there's alot of ticket machines and am not sure which entrance is the front...
Would anybody be embarassed if I really did wear a fairytale princess dress???
The train leaves from Platform 30, was at the Hbf last night and couldn't find it...hmmm...

Nov 11 2004, 10:33 am
Do you mean the ticket machines in the big hall leading to a bunch of food stores then the platform? At the top of the U-bahn stairs?

winegirl, what u said. i dont know how to put it better. I know it has a really high sealing, and theres a cluster of machines back to back. and if u walk further into the statio u go by the shops. My description is really shitty im sorry.
k1w1, id say go for it, but is it lined, ull freeze otherwise!!!

Nov 11 2004, 1:22 pm
Should be along but me + 2 are going to come by car. Chewy might call you if we are lost <insert comments about SteveNZ's inability to get from Munich to Prague in a straight line here>
We will look for the slightly blue New Zealander wearing a fairy dress...
So either you or K1W1 are going to be wearing an Auckland jersey for the rugby after then?
steveNZ
Nov 11 2004, 2:28 pm
I guess since K1w1 will be dressed as a fairy (no comments about the Auckland rugby team please...) then I'll dig out a blue 'n white...
K1w1
Nov 11 2004, 3:05 pm
Oh shit, forgot about the rugby. So that means if we want to see the AB's pound some salami into the paddock we have to back in munchen by 5:45. I guess that means I really will be running through the halls of the castle and then jumping straight back on the train then...
Umm, yeah, about the dress, change of plans. Will be in thermal underwear, gloves, hat, scarf, legwarmers, 2 jerseys, jacket, 3 pairs of socks and most other articles of clothing I own. With my rip off false AB's jersey in my bag for later!

Have got a friend here for the weekend and we'd rly like to come along tomorrow too! I rly hope it snows and we can get horse pulled carriages!!!

Is everyone still meeting at the 9:30pm at those ticket machines in the back of the main hall?
Oh and Kw1w platform 30 is if you walk right to the end of platform 26 (I think, or 27?) and then a bit to the right! It's a bit of a walk from the front of the station tho.
