I was there last night/this morning and I must say that it was quite an experience. I think we left at around 7am and there were about 30 people queuing outside waiting to get in.
So is it popular with Toytowners?

Like I've never come across a place like it before, unreal. And the security check is tougher than the one at the airport.
What time does it usually finish up? And is it only open on Friday and Saturday nights?
TobyG.
Feb 4 2008, 1:23 am
Berghain itself (the first floor) is open only saturday. The panorama bar floor is open friday and saturday. Occasionally, Berghain is open for concerts/special events (usually sunday, but only four or five times a year).
Berghain closes around 10 to 12, Panorama bar goes on till late afternoon/evening.
yea, security... tough bouncers as well, poor people standing in queue for one hour and getting rejected... but that's berghain

Yeah its kick ass, the first floor is a bit much for me sometimes, but the panorama bar is great, last time i was there i left at around 3 sunday, got about 20mins away and then decided the outside world was actually rubbish in comparison and of course went back for round two. much debauchery ensued of course
People into techno from all corners of the world talk about wanting to visit these days too. Kind of how they used to with Tresor i guess..

it's gotten the reputation as being one of the finest clubs in the world. you definitely have to be mentally prepared to go there...i stay away in the winter because the hourlong queues are not so fun outside when it's 0 degrees. otherwise it's a great time and usually the music is quite good.

I was there too, also left around 7 am.
The music was, okay, and sometimes really good. But I was surprised to find that most people on the dance floor where interested in other things but dancing. Almost felt like a "meat market", hence way too much disco vibe for me.

I had no problem what so ever to get in. Do you know by what reasons people are refused to enter? Could be useful to know.

I never had problems at the door, too. Standing in the line, I see sometimes people are rejected for reasons nobody really knows. I guess it just depends on the mixture inside. Just be yourself is the best one can do, I guess. Being not a lowbrow will do fine. No overdressing also.
Normally, the people on the dancefloor in panorama bar do exactly this. Dancing. It's a bit different in Berghain, cause of the gay community, but usually it's also (but not only) about dancing here

I never realized there was a "Panorama"-bar. Or that there was another dancefloor.
I just went to the main floor and stayed there for six hours straight, occasionally restocking my water supply at the bar. =)

haha, yeah the upstairs is really cool, you missed out there! whenever ive been its more bangin downstairs and more minimal and housey upstairs.
They can knock out pretty decent cocktails up there too (considering), and quite quick & cheap

Ok, might try it out next saturday. And I need to invest in a new pair of shoes if this is going to be a habit of mine.

The party never really stops. Around 9-10am new (fresh) people start to arrive. I might start with that too. Dancing the during the night is a pretty stupid idea. I left about 2pm and the Panorama dancefloor was still packed with people.

Although the topic is focused on Berghain, I found a quote from Oliver Koletzki regarding 'Panorama bar'...Maybe more of a reason to check it out?

QUOTE
What is your favourite club and why?
Panorama Bar.
The sound system is excellent, but the main reason I like it is because of the phat crowd. There are heteros, gays, lesbians; punks, chavs, craftsmen but also well-off people like bankers and managers. People from almost every social class can be seen there, and together they all go wild.
That atmosphere is so special to me. Wow! Of course it's a pleasure to spin there, but I also go there just to have fun.

No, there are only italians there. Last sunday I think I was the only one not speaking italian.
Actually it was quite a strange. I constantly had the feeling that I was attending a party uninvited, almost even unwelcome.
When does that place actually close? 10 am monday morning or? I left late sunday evening and no one else was leaving and the party didn't seem to have any intention of ending (ever).

Who was DJing? Actually I might even have known a couple of people that went there that particular night. My guess Mistress Barbara or André Galuzzi

My wish is for a perlon/pantytec night to come to Munich. Definitely drool worthy...

Panorama Bar can be a bit like that. It can feel like a closed, cliquey party... and then the next time you go, it's an amazingly mixed, outgoing crowd and you can make lots of random friends. A lot depends on the door policy of the night, it seems.
Mind you, the most friends I ever made in Berghain was when I was in full drag... so there's a tip
No idea when it all ends - have also been there late Sunday and it was still buzzing.
Berghain/PB is fab. I keep expecting it to fall victim of it's own success or go off the boil, but no sign as yet

I´ve just arrived in Berlin and am interested in hooking up with some like minded clubbers. I´ll be going to Panorama Bar to see Laurent Garnier on 29/02. If there are any Laurent Garnier fans out there, get in touch.

I'm certainly up for hooking up with some more folks to party with, and am also a huge LG fan, but I'm not sure if I'm here that weekend

If I am I'll be in touch for sure. If not then some other time..

What's the cover typically? And the best time to avoid lines (are you saying Sun. morning around 10 or 11 AM)? And how best to dress to get in (more clarity about not "overdressing")? Thanks!

My boyfriend and i are going early Sunday morning. He has gone a number of times but it will be my first time at Bergain(he grew up in Berlin). I have been to Watergate a number of times though and usually the crowd from Watergate heads over to Berghain. When I go to Watergate, I don't wear anything too special, a trendy dress or top, it's that easy...I've never had a a problem getting in I have seen people get turned away and usually it looks as if the men were overly dressed (buttoned up suit with nice shoes on) or the girls looked to young and slutty. Oh, and also, when you are going in make sure you have a mixed group; if your a man and with a bunch of men, split up and go in with some girls (and vice versa). I've seen it many times that they won't let people in just for that reason.

To avoid long lines: Come early (before 1:30) or late (after 8:00). Just dress how you feel - make sure you're comfortable with your clothes (business wear is rarely seen there).

I'd agree with Missmargaret about splitting up into smaller groups or pairs. Not sure that being with girls really makes much difference at Berghain - it is technically a gay club after all. Dressing down is recommended.
Standing in the queue, I've noticed the quiet types seem to be more successful at the door. Loud groups of up-for-it revellers are more likely to get turned away, especially if they speak English. I've seen the tattoo-faced doorman actually asking groups whether they are German or not, and then his assistant steps forward and turns them away in English.
It's all good fun... the buzz from actually getting in sets you up for the night...

Thanks, all. Anyone know the answer to my question about cover (doesn't seem apparent on their website). JasonD, are you saying they are profiling (meaning for DECREASED diversity)? My main problem with a place like Tresor, for example, is that the only thing I see there are ethnic German ("white") 20- & 30-somethings. That's not sexy at all to me, so if that's the scene at Berghain I would definitely give it a pass.
TobyG.
Feb 23 2008, 2:06 pm
In Berghain the problem is that it's sometimes TOO touristy (read streamlines comment about the only italian crowd) - and that is the reason rejecting non-german (definitely not only english) talking people after some time. The bouncers want to keep the right mixture inside (gay/hetero, german/tourists, crazy/normal), so it's definitely no personal affront if you don't get in. The crowd is totally different from that in Tresor and much more enjoyable.
Entrance is 10 (friday only panorama bar) and 12 (saturday, for Berghain AND panorama bar). Not much if you're there for 22 h

But you're a girl! 9 out of 10 that get refused are men. Most of the time I think they're refused because they're not gay and they think that it's just too many (heterosexual) men inside.
Best trick to be on safe side is to arrive with heaps of good looking girls. (Any volunteers?

And actually, people arriving sunday morning, about 10-11 seem to be just a pinch smarter dressed than the night crowd. You spot a little bit more high end street wear brands and such...

Don't think so. Of course more men are rejected, simply because there are more men wanting in, but often also girls are rejected.

I found that place kind of cool in a sense, but there where things I did not find too cool.
The place practically turned into a gay orgie at one point. It kind of took away the coolness of just dancing away to techno/trance music.
But all in an it is a very cool place.

Forgot,
When I went there, there was group of maybe 8-10 girls with 2 guys. They got rejected. I could never understand why. The ppl in line where at least 90% male. Some females would not hurt. The girls where dressed accordingly if you´d ask me. I think it was because they where foreign (English and French), perhaps a little to touristic, but anyway.

Nevermind, was refused tonight unfortunately.
I just came back from Berghain / Panorama Bar and the night this far was 100% great. Around 2am we had to spend 30-40min in queue and the gentlemen on the door had no intention in keeping us outside (a group of 2m/2f). And yes, the cover fee was that standard 12€ (plus 1,5€ when we left our jackets). Not too touristy, but some large-ish spanish / italian groups. Also some of the big groups like this were turned down.

hey all,
I used to live in Berlin a few years ago and PB/Berghain was my favorite party venue. (In fact, never before or after have I ever found a place where I've had more fun). now I'm going back to Berlin for the first time since I moved out and the first thing I wanna do is go straight to PB...
the friends I used to party with are no longer there, so I'm looking for new people - anyone going there this Thursday for the de:BUG party or Friday get perlonized?
(I'm only looking for serious party people, of the kind that are capable of spending the whole weekend there...;-)
