Hi everyone!
I'm currently located on an Army base in Dexheim... it's an extremely small post. I've been here for almost two years now and just found out the other week that we're being relocated to Bamberg this summer.
I'm kind of excited to be going to a new area, however, I am concerned about starting all over from square one -- the few friends I did make here are all going to different bases throughout Germany. I just stumbled across this site this afternoon so I'm new to all of this. But, I thought I'd put a post on here in hopes of maybe meeting some new people before I move. Maybe that way the transition won't be as difficult.
Is anyone stationed out there right now that can tell me what to expect? You can check out my profile on here for me info about me.

Hi legalstudent25,
What a coincidence ... I PCS'd from that region of Germany to Bamberg last Summer.
My husband's unit was inactivated due to transformation and we PCS'd from Wiesbaden to Bamberg.
I understand your frustration.
I could hardly find any information on Bamberg.
Feel free to PM (private message) me for specific questions.
Also here is a very helpful YAHOO group.

You'll find the Bastards of Bamberg aka. the land registry. Do say hello to them from me.

I am moving to Bamberg to teach in two weeks. I would love to meet some friends, people to hang out with, weekend trips etc. I am very social and know I will make friends, but moving somewhere all by myself has some anxiety too.

Hi. My family and I will be moving there in November. Due to the size of our family (we have 4 kids), we haev been told that we only qualify for off post "oversized unsubstadized housing" Whatever the heck that means. I know we will have to live off post and was wondering if any of you have any advise for that? How are the places off post? My family and I am looking forward to this move and any advise would be greatly appreciated.

No worries - living off post is fine. There are no "bad areas" like in the states, and if you have children they will love the small town area. Larger cities are only a few hours away, and I hope you enjoy exploring them and the places like Italy, Switzerland etc. Wishing you the best in your journey!
