Bar recommendations in Hamburg

I have a load of friends coming to Hamburg at the weekend and whilst we intend on having a good knees up on the Reeperbahn, the earlier hours we wish to go spend chilling out in some classy bars where we can hear each other speak, places like the East Hotel.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I would recommend coming to Finnegans Wake to watch football & of course 6 Nations Rugby!!!

if it's posh and classy you're looking for I'd say you go to Bar in the Hotel Hafen Hamburg ( it's in the tower of the hotel and you can overlook the whole of the harbour from there) or to Christiansen's, a nice little cocktail bar near the fish market.
I wouldnt call us posh or classy poser like bars but we're quiet enough to have a conversation in.

Hofbräu is worth a visit too.

Also Brauhaus Johannes Albrecht, near Finnegan's. Its a micro-brewery and their dark Kupfer beer is great.

For a bit of class try Parlament, also near Finnegan's. (Yes, I know - that's how they spell it.)

i find that there is a lack of posh-type places in hamburg.
Not that i mind the Schanze type, but once in a while it's fun to go and pretend with the people who also pretend.

I personally like the Bar Hamburg, behind the Hotel Atlantic.

There's no lack of posh bars to go to! There are plenty...
One of my favorite is the Ciu bar at Ballindamm.
This Saturday, I'll be at the 20Up at the Riverside Empire Hotel at the port, it is the highest bar in Hamburg and you can see the whole port from up there...
