Bah, there is no such thing as a Norwegian cuisine! (sorry, for trolling)
BadDoggie
Berlin? Dammit.
And Norwegian Cuisine??? Streamline wasn't trolling.

woof.
Tristan_F
Thank you Tibia! It's great you will come and your friend is very welcome too!

Streamline, perhaps Norwegians are not particularly famous for cooking, but after a visit of
Munch's Hus you will know one thing for sure: There is Norwegian cuisine! wink.gif
Scottagain
Hmm don't be bad mouthing norwegian food now, it's been around a while ya know laugh.gif
tor
of course there is such a thing as Norwegian Cuisine...

The food is mostly white, covered in a white sauce, with some lingen berries for color and served with Aquavit for a little taste.

Hej Scott, hvor i Norge er du fra?

Hils, Tor!

Hva i helvete mener du når du sier at maten er for meste parten hvit?

Blasphemy, I say! We have brown sauce, too!
And what in faen's name are lingen berries? You mean lingonberries?

Raspeballer, fårikål, gravlax, fiskeboller, flatbrød, multekrem, tilslørte bondepiker, kransekake...mmmh is all I can say. Pinnakjøtt! Svele!
And the brave people can feast on smalahove and lutefisk.

So there are signature seafood (and especially salmon) dishes, mutton, lamb, reindeer, brown cheese, and some of the most delicious deserts ever. And dont forget the booze. I am homesick now...wish I lived in Berlin at least. Bon appetit, all of you.
tor
maybe in the big city they have brown sauce, but my family is from Møre og Romsdal. I remember once when my mom decided to bake the lutefisk with a little bit of garlic...
Sue87
Herregud! Møre og Romsdal is indeed more than a stone's throw from Ulvik, Eidslandet and Granvin in Hardanger. But as to whether Ulvik would qualify as a big city compared to your folks' place...I don't know, it seems unlikely.
Then again, not even Bergen is a big city, although I am sure my folks would protest...*g*

Don't know about the garlic, but I have heard of people baking the lutefisk before. I don't see why not, if done right...it's still some hideous-looking shite, even _if_ done right. lol

You have a great Nordic name! smile.gif Heia Norge!
tor
Bud was the gig city... smile.gif
Tibia
Oh god now im nervous...

Could one of these kind Norwegian people explain what some of these dishes that they mentioned are, as ive just realised the menu will be norwegian/german which may not give enough information?
tor
Don't be nervous. here's a link to the menu in German.
it's looks so delicious i just might make the trek...

I didn't see lutefisk, poor you. Think cod soaked in bleach, dried, then reconstituted, boiled into a yummy transparent gelatinous heap...no i'm not kidding.
streamline
Everything on that menu are inherited from the royal kingdom of Sweden, the true rulers of this western province. Except for that "får i kål" dish. Something so horrible can only be invented by the "hurtige gutterna" them self.
Tibia
@ Tor, thanks for the link, it looks totally brilliant. Quite looking forward to this now! What time's the last train back to Hamburg? Surely you can join us?!

Lutefisk sounds akin to wallpaper paste so Im not crying big tears here about its unavailability.

Hey Tor.

Stop your lies with this white sauce your talking about, lol. We have brown too. My God man, this is not everyday food you're talking about.
Jeg er fra Sandefjord (i Vestfold, ca en og en halv time fra Oslo) kompis, men de siste ärene har jeg bodd i vär kjäre hovedstad Oslo.

Have a good one bud.

Hahaha, digger den aggressive tonen Sue.
Gravlaks, smalahoved og lutefisk er bare jävlig. Dette er det heldigvis ikke hverdagskost mer.

Reindeer is really good with this brown cheese sauce they make to it, my God it's heaven.
Come to Berlin and have dinner with us!!!

Have a good one.

Jamesm
Hi Tristan

count me in as well...
Charlotte
Count me in, too.
sunny
sounds really good! count me in, plus one.

we used to go to "der alte schwede" but it kinda went downhill so I'm excited to try this place.
Tristan_F
Hi Charlotte, sunny and Jamesm!

I am glad to put you on my list for the Norwegian dinner.

In case the public transport company BVG is on strike on Thursday, there will be an alternative.
You can take the S-Bahn to S-Bahnhof Yorckstrasse.

See you at Munch's Hus!
phoenix-rose
bump since this is tomorrow.
tlcoles
Just a note to say how nice it was to meet people and to enjoy the ULTRA-FAB meal at Munch's Hus. Kudos, Tristan_F, for introducing us all to this restaurant. (No debate here on what Norwegian cuisine can offer!)

In case you're going, do try the "veiled Norwegian farm girl" for dessert. (Gluten-free, Tibia!) wink.gif
Tibia
I just hate those high-gluten farm girls...

what a cracker of a meal though, best fish dish ive tasted yet in Germany, and the company was great too.
alika
Hear, hear! I agree that it was the best fish that I have had in Germany. I looked up the berries that came with the cremecaramel and they are translated as cloud berries. Note to self: stay away from cloud berries. Other than the cloud berries, the food was top-notch and the people were too!

Thanks, Sebastian, for organizing it!
