Freimann in Munich’s north-east is facing an immense increase in traffic due to massive construction work on the bridge between the Schwabing on-ramp at Schenkendorfstrasse and the Freimann on-ramp at Heidemannstrasse, a crucial connection to the A9 towards Nuremberg and Berlin. The north-bound lanes are being dismantled first, the destruction work that commenced in autumn 2007 has now reached the bridge leading from Ungerer / Situlistrasse up to the Nuremberg Autobahn. Starting 30 January 2008 the on-ramp Frankfurter Ring will be closed. The reconstruction of the north-bound bridge and lanes is planned to be finished by the end of 2008. Then, the same procedure will begin for the south-bound lanes, the off-ramp to Frankfurter/Föhringer Ring will be closed down. The complete reconstruction of the structure will last through 2010.

Meanwhile, the traffic has to go somewhere. So Situlistrasse north of the Föhringer Ring and Freisinger Landstrasse have been re-modeled and declared no-parking zones, temporary yellow lines now mark the two proper lanes leading north instead of the previous one wide lane. Traffic due for the Autobahn on-ramp at Freimann turns left off Freisinger Landstrasse and left again off Heidemannstrasse.

If you are planning to go north on the A9 either enter the Autobahn at the Schwabing on-ramp from the Mittlerer Ring and navigate the exceedingly narrow temporary lanes through the construction site, or continue north either on Freisinger Landstrasse or Ingolstädter Strasse/B13 to avoid the Freimann on-ramp, hitting the Garching entrance instead. Whatever you do, stock up on patience, calculate your travel time generously and reckon with heavy to stand-still traffic, especially on Friday afternoons when the non-Munich based work force heads north to home, Franconia and glory.

DO NOT take the Ingolstädterstrasse/B13!! That will just muck up my daily trip home to Unterschleissheim (as if it's not bad enough these days!)
