Nightclubs for a Saturday night out in Munich

Recommended clubs and info on what music they play

Hello,
I'm a long time lurker here but I'm hoping someone can give me a bit of advice! I'm coming to Munich with my OH and a few friends in May to celebrate my OH's 30th birthday. She wants to head back to Andechs in the day time to tick off her Catholic guilt and weissbier obsession with two ticks, but I'm wondering about what to do on the night. I've seen various clubs mentioned across Munich but I don't know what type of music they play on each night or what locals would recommend. We're looking for somewhere to go out on the Saturday night that isn't full of schmicki-mickis. If you lot could give us your club recommendations, the type of music they play, the general atmosphere and all that then I'd be most grateful!

BTW - It's the 31st May if that makes any difference.

definitely not schiki-micki!

eh, I wouldn't go there for a 30th.

I hear 089 is cool, but I've never managed to make it there. (right next to Pacha)
Pacha can be fun since there are a lot of gay guys so people actually dance smile.gif
Milch Bar will be re-opening soon, and its good until early in the morning.

hey, I just went for the non-schicki-micki angle! I'm pretty sure Pacha's almost as bad as P1 right? In terms of snobbery. How about 8 seasons?

Cheers, I'll check these places out. I've seen mentioned in the guidebooks some outdoors indie disco biergarten. Don't have the name here but I'll find it... sounds intriguing!

If it's an indie place you're after I would recommend Backstage. It's a little far out of town but it's brilliant smile.gif 2 rooms, one with indie, the other with your heavier rock sort of stuff. It also has an outside biergarten.
Or if you want to stay in the city centre they're always Atomic Cafe, which is pretty tiny and a bit over priced, but the music is generally pretty decent.
Both places are pretty damn good for gigs aswell smile.gif

Good luck finding somewhere!

One place on Kult Fabrik to avoid is Drei Turme. We went there on Saturday and discovered that the 'DJ' was not really a DJ but just a guy who played one song after another, with no sense of continuity from one song to the next. It was quite annoying and then we discovered he was a sensitive little chap, and had us thrown out when I said he wasn't a DJ. Poor little man, must have hurt his feelings at the wrong time of his cycle. The bouncers then proved to be a bunch of total idiots, even more amateur than average, seemingly capable of only aggravating the situation and shoving anyone who tried to talk to them. I know that bouncers feel more comfortable lashing out than trying to put sentences together but these morons were genuinely our neanderthal cousins.

In short, if you go to Kult Fabrik, then choose a better club in which to invest your hard earned.

A list of 'every' club in Munich (with a link to the MVV public transport site) can be found here:
In-München - Adressen

The main page lists all upcoming events in Munich but only for the next week or two - print version also available round town.
In-München

By the way be careful not to ask a German where the nearest 'nightclub' is, unless you want to end up in an 'erotic' club.
They still refer to clubs as discos here.

Cheers for all of these suggestions, it's really helpful. I'll remember - disco, not nightclub, till later in the night tongue.gif
