halfasleep
Hiii All,

I arrived in Cologne first week of January and started work straight away. I only moved into my new apartment a few days ago...im here for minimum 6months and would like to meet some people outside of work and hopefully make some new friends. In 3 weeks Ive already noticed my English is deteriorating i hope it doesn't continue, coz my German isnt improving either!!

I havent been around much since ive arrived. Im from London and recently finished university.
Any fellow English speakers around, wanna meet up for dinner, lunch or something?

btw can someone tell me why nothing is opened on Sundays???

regards,

well Welcome, I am Elaine an American ( I kind of speak english LOL just a differant kind than you are used to!) been here basically since March. we have all kinds of meet ups! If you want to get together let me know .. they close most everything on sundays its the law... save Bakerys- restraunts and the emergency pharmacies you need a special permit to be open on sundays.. its strange but just one of the quirky german things

You'll find though that there are some kiosks and little corner shops open on a Sunday. We even have one in our part of town that's open 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. Of course, there's always the shopping centre in the main train station too that's always open.

Hey there,

Just arrived myself. Company relocated me here after working in Beijing for 3 years. Would love to grab a beer. Just drop me a line when you get a chance.

And yeah, I totally get you with the frustration of stores being closed so early and on Sundays as well. Especially confounding, when most Germans are always speaking about how poorly the economy is doing! Here's a thought - let's keep the stores open to stimulate consumer spending.

welcome jfz103. Your more then welcome to come along tomorrow if you want!

Thanks for the invite Spillerkoln. Unfortunately, I don't have the day off tomorrow from work. Would like to catch up some other time, though.

Hi all,

Finnish guy here. I've been in Germany for about a year now but haven't really been around much (work ). I live near Cologne, and I'd like to meet some English-speaking people over a beer or two sometimes and share our german experiences. There seem to be a few threads about meetups in Cologne, one for 20-somethings and one for 40+; this leaves me in kind of a no mans land (I'm just over 30). Any suggestions?

Ignore the ages for the meets, they don't really mean anything any more!

Just wanted to say hi. I am from the North of England and I have lived in Cologne for 4 years. I don't know any fellow native speakers so would be nice to meet some!
