QUOTE (Dan M.)
If your knowledge of the German language is as limited as mine, you may know how difficult it is to have a positive experience at the barber shop, let alone the dentist's office. My previous experiences with 'English-speaking' dentist offices in Germany have been what I would call abortive, not even getting to the stage of successfully booking an appointment.
Luckily, I stumbled upon Dr. Selmair's advertisement in Toytown when my situation seemed desperate. At that point I'd had a toothache for over one month and my face had begun to swell grotesquely. Having no dental insurance in the United States, I hadn't even gone for a check-up for several years, and so I was reluctant to start now in Munich. Now I hardly had the option.
I called Dr. Selmair's office and was able to book an appointment with the receptionist for that same day and was given a sort of emergency treatment by Dr. Selmair so that I could return to work later that day. In that time, a couple of x-rays were taken as well as high-resolution digital pictures of the problem areas.
Dr. Selmair explained to me, in fluent and precise English, exactly the location and extent of the problem, and the treatment options, including a state-of-the-art root canal treatment and composite fillings which look exactly like the actual tooth in the pictures.
So far, I've had three visits to her office and will have had four in total. Though the receptionists' English is not as good as Dr. Selmair's, I've never had a problem booking an appointment with them. The procedures themselves (one root canal and three fillings) were almost entirely painless and were performed both quickly and carefully. Having not gone to a dentist in so long and given the extent of the problem, I approached the situation with quite a bit of trepidation, but was put entirely at ease after my intial appointment by the way I was treated. No one likes going to the dentist, but I feel quite a bit better having gone to this one.
