Hello All-
My husband and I are making a short trip to Munich, with the idea of relocating there at the start of the new year. We have limited time (only two full days) to get the "Best Of" Munich. We describe ourselves at outdoor adventure sports enthusiasts. Our main concern moving to the city is not having enough active outdoor activities to do. Although, reading your message board reveals that there is lots of skiing, mtn. biking, rock climbing, hiking and even surfing(!!) in the area.
I was wondering if any of you like minded individuals (or if you know of someone who would be interested or a company) would by chance be interested in showing us around on either Monday and Tuesday October 25/26. We're not interested (for this trip) in seeing the tourist attractions. We want to see the markets, parks, how accessable outdoor recreation is, areas to live, best restaurants...what you love most about living in Munich. If not a tour, can you offer us suggestions of places to go or who to contact for a tour of this nature.
We are really looking forward to coming!
Many Thanks-
Rebecca

well the surfing thing is overrated, but you're an hour from a good ski area and you can reach a good hiking zone too (ALPS), indoor climbing is here, outdoor I suppose too (ALPS), wind surfing at the many lakes just south of munich (Chiemsee, Starnberg), moutain biking yes (ALPS, Gruenwald), that too.
i also suggest buying a good guide book and doing your research here on Toytown. that's the point of this forum, isn't it?
for a tour like you want, i'm afraid I would have to charge you.

The Alps on the doorstep mean that Munich is perfect for
- winter sports: skiing, snowboarding, ski-touring, ski-mountaineering, tobaggoning, snow-shoeing etc. and even ice-climbing if you know your stuff
- mountaineering, hill-walking, trekking, sport rock climbing, alpine rock routes, via-ferratas / klettersteige
At this time you are unfortunately coming on the switch over between the 2 seasons, the snow levels are dropping and most of the huts are closed, and the ski resorts dont really start until mid november.
Oh yeah and you've also got paragliding, hang-gliding, white water, mountain biking, indoor climbing (europes biggest) to name a few. There is also sailing and wind-surfing on the many lakes in the area, but not any surfing that I have heard of (apart from the Eisbach in the English Garden)
All in all not wanting in the adventure sports dept.
