Käfer's Wies'n Schänke tent at Oktoberfest

Opinions on this smaller of the beer halls

themuzza
Hi,

As seasoned visitors to the Oktoberfest we are just sorting our table reservations in advance for this year from the UK.

Ive had replies from most halls with various availability (usual day time stuff) and a few possibles to be confirmed for evenings.

However I have the possibility of booking in the Kafer Wiesn-Schanke Tent for a Friday afternoon (3.30pm until 18.45pm).

I understand this is a very small tent, certainly we are used to the large scale tents and the usual madness on a Friday.

Does it have any music or is it all about the food in here, and the atmosphere, worth booking?

Having spent from Tuesday until the Friday at the Oktoberfest a more sedate tent may be appealing on our final day, but if its like a restaurant then theres no point.

Any sensible opinions greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Andy

Last year I was in one of the smaller tents for the first time. Not the one you mention, but I'd guess that it's similar. I can't imagine any place at the Wiesn being like a restaurant.

Yes, there's music, beer, and tons of atmosphere. The big tents are impressive for their scale, but the smaller one is a much more intimate atmosphere, has better seating, and is well worth it IMO.

The quality of the food at Käfer is outstanding but it costs a mint. Your minimum consumption is €30 per person for an afternoon booking and €70 in the eveing (last year's prices). The music is a Bavarian duo and will play every cringe-worthy song ever invented for the Wiesn with Munich's Schickimicki society singing along. Because the rich and famous (or those who think they should be) frequent Käfer. I would go there just to people-watch, especially the attire this fashionable clique deem suitable. It isn't as boisterous as the big tents and offers a unique Munich experience.
P.S. @ Matt T - It's not in the least like that tent.

I'd add that quite a few of my Munich friends in marketing regularly book the Kaefer tent to woo/reward clients. I don't know if I'd say any Wies'n tent is "classy", but this is as close as you can get and still have fun.

I've always had great service there, too.

Andy, if you have the possibility of booking a table, take it! Definitely. It's very different to the other tents, but certainly worth it. As for food, music, and atmosphere, see Sarabyrd's post above. She's right. I'd reiterate, go there to people watch. Keep an eye out for German celebrities like Nadja Auermann, Boris Becker, Oliver Kahn, and so on. Make sure you report back here afterwards on how it was.

I go to this tent every year with one of my German female friends, it's a lot of fun if only for the people watching as EB says.
food and drink are a bit pricier but the food is quite nice I have to say.
