I have 10 days off, where should I go on holiday?

Suggested nice and cheap places in Europe

Hi. I have about 10 spare days from the beginning of April. I would like to make a trip somewhere in Europe, but I don't know where! I am on a tight budget, hopefully this wont cost more that €500-600. The holiday can just be for 3 or 4 days though. I am travelling alone, so somewhere that other young, friendly people go would be nice. Also somewhere warm would be good, but this is not essential! I have already been to London, Paris, Rome, Venice, Florence, most of Germany, Lauterbrunnen Switzerland, Salzburg, Prauge, Amsterdam and the Canary Islands. So I dont want to go back to any of these. I can't go to Egypt (travel insurance doesnt cover it). Any advice or suggestions would be great!

Croatia & Slovenia...won't be warm, but cheap and lively.
Carm
still cheap partial inclusive trips to Malta, Greece and Turkey at that time.

Just make sure to watch the movie Hostel first.

Lake district in Hungary.

Montenegro is nice, as is Budapest. Budapest isn't really warm right now though but the baths are nice.

I just thought of two more countries I enjoyed:

Bosnia and Herzegovina
Morocco
Viennamom
You said you wanted to travel within Europe but does it have to be Europe? If you have euros, the euro-U.S. exchange rate is really good if you want to take a trip to the USA-- and there are places there that will be warm in April (such as Florida.)

Otherwise-- what about Italy (such as Rome?)

But to the States for:

i'd go to lisbon portugal. good food, decent prices, decent hotels. at least it was like that about 8 years ago. i like the layout of the city a lot, with the hills and the harbor. it'll probably be pretty warm there, but not totally hot. yeah, go to portugal.

Travel to America? No thanks
NOFXmike
Hell, even Americans don't want to deal with the hassle.

I'd go with Croatia.

Went to Portugal (lisbon, etc) in October. Airfare was cheap enough, but hotels and food are about the same as here.
I would think eastern europe would give you more 'value' for the euro/buck. Seems you've been to the big cities, which would require more hotel fare. Why not try the smaller cities/villages instead? More culture and rooms affordable. I doubt you'll find a night life in a small village/town, but I would imagine it would be just as safe than those ginormous cities.

Just make sure to watch the movie Hostel first.

That took place in Slovakia not Slovenia.. We saw the movie 2 days before going to Bratislava - which was so boring that I almost wished that movie were true. We sat through the torture of Bratislava, might as well have gotten the wild sex first.
Bec22
What about Greece, or their islands? Anyone been? Do you think I could get a good deal?
ARANCINA
I would go to Sicily: Taormina, the temples, warm enough to stroll along the beach...nice food... (I am not sicilian, I swear)

bratislava is not a boring city. I had a good time there, anyway ... and Hostel (at least, the scenes in the city) was filmed in cesky krumlov, not in slovakia.

If I had 10 days and wanted to chill on the cheap, I'd go to Romania and Bulgaria. Bucharest, and then to the Black Sea.

Actually I'll go there this spring, but thinking i will start in Athens and work my way north, to macedonia, serbia and then over to bulgaria and romaina, then westward, stop to hike in the slovakian paradise, then towards olomouc, cz, one of my favorites (unesco site, with an interesting local art scene and some nice locals, plenty of daytrip excursions in the area, and good shopping as well... and not a lot of tourists), and maybe yet another time to cesky, but maybe not because it's become quite the tourisy spot. But I'd recommend it strongly if you haven't seen it yet. There is some good river rafting in the area, tho the water might be chilly in April, anyone know?. Cesky is a postcard perfect, beautiful little town that makes hostel all the more ludicrous.

prag, schmaag... good for clubbing but whatever..

Valencia is nice and should be warm-ish at the start of April. Not sunburn warm but warm enough for a Brit to lie on the beach laugh.gif
There's a great hostel in the Barrio Carmen (the old town).
And Ryanair fly there, although not sure how far you are away from one of Michael O'Leary's chosen airstrips with a portakabin.

Other than that I would second somewhere in Eastern Europe. You could do Bratislava, Budapest and Vienna easily in the same trip...all have their charms and are very different cities. But they definitely won't be warm that time of year!
AnswerToLife42
What about Mallorca? Flights are not too expensive and you have a large selection.
That time of the year biking is great. Not too warm. Good starting point "Colonia St Jordi".
They also rent bikes there

Český simply means Czech/Bohemian/Böhmisch ...
Kay
He did give the full name of the place (Český Krumlov) at the beginning of his post. He probably couldn't be bothered to type all of it every time.
krostitzer
Nono, that's right, I should have said "Krumlov wub.gif"

And I had some big plans to go there, or somewhere like there, to chill out for a week in the dead of winter, and here winter's almost over already... naja, perhaps only the thought of it was enough to get through the dark months...
