hello everyone,

I am 19, living just outside Coburg for just over 6 months now. teaching myself a little german every once in a wile, i have no job here and i am not going to school or uni here right now. i am living with a friend who does speak german and does work already and has been for a wile. I am making this post for a few reasons...

I would like to meet english speaking people around my area just as friends because at the moment i don't go out too too much cause of lack of german friends who speak enough english for me to understand along with me being a shy person.

i would like help for how and where i can get language course to improve my German and push away my lack of confidence to speak much of the german i know.

getting residency and work perments

What help i can get off the goverment such as free health care and free language course

i have duel citizenship as a american and a english and hold a british passport

Thank you for any help you can give me smile.gif

I came to Germany first when I was a LOT older, and I know the problems.
Over free Health Care - as an EU citizen you might JUST qualify - look
at the UK DWP (Department of Work and Pensions) web site.
You might be in a position to get a E??? form.
If not - you on your own! It is NOT a good idea to be without health insurance...
There is no help available free for learning German for UK citizens.
Germans are not good at helping those who are trying...
Just try... A perplexed look is often defused with a smile.
"Bitte wiederholen Sie eine bisschen langsamer" (please repeat a little slower)
helps.
The best learner I have met is a Yorkshire ex-teacher friend - absolutely without inhibitions.
Hopefully your friend is properly registered as living at your address?
You need to register there as well!
No probs. for an EU citizen.
You do not need a work permit (as you come from the "old" EU - you do need
a "Bescheinigung" (Certificate) from the Auslanderamt (of your local authority)
this is free and just declares that you have passport no. so and so
and as a Brit. you can live in Germany.)
(This is not so if you cannot support yourself and pay for health insurance, be careful!)
You are allowed a certain time in D to look for work. I've never heard of a Brit. being thrown
out, but theoretically it is possible if you become a charge on public funds.

I believe that you are eligible for an integration course, which is mostly a language course. I hear it's only one euro per hour.
