No way, my daughter pulled that one on me yesterday. I looked over my left shoulder and dropped my car keys, the moon was just so bright and big and surrounded by one hell of a halo. Reminded me of Caspar David Friedrich's painting style. Time travel in Munich suburb.

Thanks! It's beautiful smile.gif I just wish the clouds would move away a bit...

Looks fantastic, yeah.

One month (in the most literal possible sense) until the next total eclipse of the moon - I'll be setting my alarm to get up and see that.

Which reminds me of a couple of years ago driving home in the evening (heading North-West from Hamburg) with the moon with a fair slice taken out of it by the earth's shadow. Some twit on NDR2 radio was saying equivalent of "und folks if you look out of the window you can see the partial eclipse & its especially good as its also FULL MOON tonight"! rolleyes.gif

Indeed, it was almost horizontal when I first saw that (with some trees obstructing the view) and was wondering if thats a street light or something. Was kooL.

Ja, Indeed there was a full moon yesterday too (But it was a normal thing, unlike today) and I was at Neuschwanstein at around 17:30 hrs and it was awesome to look at the castle with a full moon in the background. Took some pics too (maybe I can post them later, when I get back home). smile.gif

<Geek mode>

Umm... sorry, what's wrong with that? Lunar eclipses do happen when the moon is particularly full (as the Earth needs to be between the Sun and the Moon), so it would have been a full-moon for most of that night.
Jeeves
Errm, I think that was the point. As in "it is ALSO full moon". The radio guy was implying that a lunar eclipse could take place not at full moon.
Matt T
Fair enough, could be. I guess it's kinda non-intuitive that an eclipse is really a "perfect" full-moon, so I wasn't sure.

Just back from a walk with the dogs - very bright what with the moon and the snow on the ground. Fantastic. I'll hope for a few less clouds in a month's time, though!
Matt T
Reminder - total eclipse of the moon tonight!

Visible at 2.10 Uhr
Total eclipse at 4.00 Uhr
Total eclipse ends 4.51 Uhr
End of visibility 6.45 Uhr

After a week of perfectly clear weather here, it's cloudy tonight. sad.gif But I'll still set the alarm and see if anything's visible...
