Try bar work, there are a few irish and english pubs in Hannover. Or there´s the american bar Henry J. Bean´s. I know the Dublin Inn behind the old Town Hall was recently looking for people.

For clarification, I can tell willum's been in Hannover for a while, because "Henry J. Bean's" is the old name, which hasn't been used in years.
(Somewhere I even have a T-shirt with the old name and logo on it. Must be at least 10 years old.)
It's now Henry's Griddle, and yes, they are frequently looking for people.

There are some other American bars and restaurants that might be hiring:

or Jack the Ripper's:

Good luck!

Blimey, you´re right. Just goes to show, doesn´t it?
I must say I´ve never heard of the other places, apart from Jack´s - seeing as I´ve so seldom left the little ol´ Nordstadt in all those years.
BTW, what´s it going to be, you and M, pistols at dawn? Hope we can all be friends!
PS: Drew a "not found" at Mels Diner and the Star Diner.

Mel's Diner's site is perennially appearing and disappearing. But trust me, they're still there. (Hildesheimer Straße, near the Messe in Laatzen -- address at
http://www.qype.com/place/13177-Mel-s-Diner-Laatzen. IMO the best American restaurant in town, even if they also seem to think "American food" is nothing but burgers, but at least it's more authentic than most places if 1950s diners are your thing.)
The Star Diner one's OK, but the forum software inserted a parenthesis at the end. Delete it and the site works.
Pistols at dawn? I prefer tactical nuclear weapons. For myself, that is. You can have the pistol if you insist.
Cheers,

Thanks for the info.
What´s with your trusty Colt then? Although, I didn´t actually mean me with M - I was thinking of our antipodean friend, whose name begins with the aforesaid letter. I was planning to watch as a neutral observer.

My first job in Germany was teaching English for a company called Inlingua. I know I have mentioned them in another post and please believe me I am NOT advertising. It is just a coincidence. They only use native speakers, you get training and dont need prior teaching experience. I know they need people because the manager just went to England to try and find new teachers. The pay is good, the only down side is that you usually teach after work hours because that is when companies want their staff to have lessons. I did it for a year and had so much fun. I also learnt loads of German doing this because the students are always telling you what this word is in German.

Hi There,
I am a Master student in Leibniz University of Hannover and want to get suggestions as how and where to find part time English job in Hannover. I don't have good knowledge of German(infact my German is very poor) but have good experties in English language, however,English is not my native laguage.
So, if anyone there has any idea in this regard, I would be grateful to receive it. Infact, I am not looking for any high paying job and expecting to earn a lot through the part time work. Some work to carry out aside mystudies would be very useful to me. I also have work expereince of working as a Student Assiatnat in University of Hannover for 7 months few months back and now that contract is over. Apart from that I also had done babysitting.
So, any type of part time job whether Student Assisatnt, Some clerical work or Baby Sitting or other as such would appeal me but the job should require English language.
Thank you, would be looking forward to get advice from you
With Best Regards

Try the Airport. There are shops and restaurants there too that often search for English speaking people (I know, I worked there).
Even if your German is poor, I reckon you could still get a job in sales, like in a shop or supermarket. Don't be scared... I started working in Germany with pretty bad German knowledge. But, working in a German environment actually really helped improve my language skills!

Hey, I've lived in Hannover for over a year now ... on money I had saved up etc. I originally moved here to be with my GF, but we broke up about a month ago, however we're still really good friends and live together (dont ask). Now my problem is that I cant find a job to save my life. I speak very little german, so working in german isnt really an option although if I dont have to speak much it might be ok. So I've been trying to find a job where I can speak english for the last month now. I haven't had much luck, I've tried a few places like Jack the Rippers and Henry's without luck. Jack the rippers would hire me, but only on a 400 euro/mo basis, which isnt enough to qualify for a workers visa. I have all the paper work done for my visa, I just need a job ... can anyone give me any advice, or point me into the right direction? This is getting very frustrating, and I really do not want to go home to Canada... not that I can even afford it now lol.
Its a tough situation I know, my current visa (resident only) runs out on Feb 19th :/ Im pretty sure I can stay legally until March 3rd though, because the visa officer only extended my stay by 2.5 months, whereas Im allowed 90 days. Any help would be much appreciated. I live about a 5 minute walk from Steintor in the heart of the city. I really do not want to work at the Airport, even though I know its probably my best choice ... the problem is, I dont have the money to afford a way there everyday :/
Thanks for any advice you can give me.
~Dan

Hi this sounds ideal for me! Is there any way you could send me some info on this company? Either that or an email or telephone number where I can speak to someone? I am moving over to germany within the next few months and trying to find something that I am actually going to enjoy, and teaching felt like a good way to go. I have little german knowledge but I am a graduate and so my english isn't too bad ;-) I'm moving over to fallingbostel area so if anyone knows of anything in the surrounding area please let me know, I'd be very grateful! thank you
cheryl :-)
