Are the German media obsessed by polar bears?
Forget plane crashes, disease and famine, the only thing in the media seems to be a minute-by-minute commentary on the lives of two baby polar bears. Today's installment: The naming of the latest one "Flocke". I can't wait to see what happens tomorrow.
Incidentally, it was interesting to hear to solution put forward by animal rights activists that they should kill the latest cute ball of white fur. Isn't that a wee bit of a contradiction?

Its a German media obsession (like with long-dead ex-princesses). As in most countries, I don't believe that the media represents the populace.

The word Flocke is not a million miles away from the word Fuck and as we all know Knut is right there by Cunt.
There, said and done.

I can understand the liking for polar bears, they can be a lot of fun.
I used to be a prop man for tv and film and one prop house had a stuffed polar bear that we used to hire out whenever possible.
Imagine the scene, transit van driving down the road, someone driving right up behind it when one of the doors opens to reveal a polar bear in the back.
or
early morning, before the shops open, leave aforementioned polar bear at gates to edinburgh zoo and photograph the reactions.
or
place bear in middle of road in a well to do urban neighbourhood.
or
just have its head looking out the window of the van when driving.
Wish I still had the photos.

The Nuremberg polar bear is now officially Flocke, so if she and Knut get all comfy together she will be Knocke-d up.

Fuck the Polar bear.
No 1. It shouldn't be in a zoo...
No 2. This type of shit is nothing more than diversion for all the dumb cunts who can't be bothered actually finding out what is really happening around the world...
Fucking news media!!!
Nothing but servants of the corporate agenda... certainly don't give us actual facts.

For GB just replace "polar bears" with "royals".

Flocke's father who had been banned to Bergisch-Gladbach (I think) after her birth is being re-patriated to Nuremberg for another go.

Whilst I appreciate the notion that following the life of a baby polar bear is pointless, if we continue this argument to it's logical conclusion then pretty much any news that does not directly apply to us is also pointless.
As it happens on that basis watching TV is pretty pointless, and so is listening to music. Chatting is pointless. This thread is pointless and...oh my god...I have just realised. Actually my life is pretty pointless and so is yours.
Once you realise that we all suffer from the same basic human issue, that everything we say and everything we do during our short flicker of life on this planet is basically ultimately totally pointless - it all gets much easier.
So if someone gets more enjoyment from reading about polar bears, than plane crashes and presidents - it's all cool and just as pointless.
Whilst right now I "should" be working and not posting here - I don't actually consider either action to be more noble or worthwhile than the other.

Topics merged by adminJust when we thought the German obsession with polar bears was drawing to a close I saw on the internet today that the Wilhelma zoo in Stuttgart now has a baby.
In case you've never been to Wilhelma, the polar bears there are so mentally insecure - they walk around their enclosure putting their feet in the same positions every single lap. They remind me of those Romanian orphans who just sit there rocking back and forth. It's one of the worst zoos I've ever seen (the lions, tigers, panthers etc have such small cages) - now the blooming media will be swarming there to feed the German obsession...

Knut Makes His Premiere On Silver ScreenQUOTE
Knut, the orphaned polar bear cub who gained global fame, has appeared as the star of a new documentary that details the first year of his life at Berlin Zoo. And as a new picture shows, he's grown up fast - now weighing 22 stone, with fearsome claws and fangs.
Knut Und Seine Freunde - translated as Knut And Friends - celebrated its premiere on Sunday and is to be shown in cinemas across Germany from Thursday.
