Live music: Munich Nov-Dec 2004

Upcoming gigs

Jon the Interloper
I read the thread on gigs in Munich from July to Nov with interest. I'm a bit of a fraud for this list as I live in London, but visit several times a year, including a couple of fortnights in the firm's flat in Lehel. As an obsessive gig goer in London and here (I'm off to see the Hives on Sunday - saw them in London and they were great) I thought I'd give a heads-up on a few upcoming gigs in Munich which may be of interest:

29/10 - Kasabian at the Atomic Cafe. Somewhere between Oasis and the Cooper Temple Clause. LP just gone top 5 in UK.

3/11 - Dogs Die In Hot Cars (great name) at the Atomic Cafe. XTC/early Talking Heads. Scottish band with catchy tunes.

7/11 - Mark Lanegan at Backstage. Ex-singer with Screaming Trees and mate of Kurt Cobain. No-one is quite sure how he's still alive given his substance intake. Veers between stripped down folk-blues and all out rockers and has the most incredible voice. Prefers to stand in shadow live, which is a bit weird. Part-time member of Queens Of The Stone Age.

25/11 - Faithless at Zenith. Dance band, but one of the very best live bands around. Always steal any UK festival they play.

30/11 - Radio 4 at Atomic Cafe. New York Band, heavily influenced by Gang Of Four and the funkier end of The Clash.

6/12 - Interpol at Muffathalle. New York band, again. Heavily influenced by Joy Division, but much sharper dressers.

9/12 - Secret Machines at Backstage. Yet another New York-based band. How to describe them? Take Pink Floyd, remove the self-indulgence, and put John Bonham on drums. Doesn't sound too promising, but this band are my personal favourites of the year. Saw them in London and they were breathtaking.

Anyway, sorry to have gone on, and apologies if I've broken any protocol. Hope this is of use.

Yah - I'd give the nod to Interpol alright... If you like Franz Ferdinand, odds
are they you'll find your foot tapping to Interpol.

Where do you know from that the Franz Ferdinand gig will take place in Muffathalle instead of Tonhalle? Muffathalle is my favourite venue in Munich so it would be really cool to see FF there...but I couldn't find anything on the web about it...
GreenCurry
the info is from this ticket site .. which linked from MunichX.de I don't know if they will be an official announcement.
Luckily from Tonhalle to Muffathalle is just one Sbahn stop

According to the Muffathalle the gig is still in the Tonhalle...

Would be great if it does change...Muffathalle is much better!!!

Just Checked again..
MunichX.de, MünchenTicket.de etc..all say Tonhalle.
The Franz Ferdinand Website say "townhalle" too

Looks like it we'll be rockin' there...

Should be a good night, no matter where they play!!! Looking forward to it.

The Legendary Pink Dots are playing tomorrow night, Wednesday the 10th, at Feierwerk, Hansastr 39-41 in "formicula H39" at 20:30.

I haven't seen them before but my husband says it's a great show. We'll both be there.

Yeah went back and check the link, they took the "VERLEGT" sentence away .. false alarm

Sorry for making you all happy(me included) about Muffathalle

You missed out on two amazing bands that will be playing this month:

- James Yorkston & The Athletes – Tuesday 23rd November - @ Harry Klein

- Embrace – Sunday 28th November - @ Georg-Elser-Halle, Zusatzhalle

The first, James Yorkston, is a very talented Scot who surprisingly is very unknown. If you are into your "quiet riot" style indie, such as "kings of Convenience", then you will love this guy!

Embrace don't really need to be introduced, however I would say that they are more for people who were once big fans. I haven't heard the latest album yet, but I'm hoping that it's going to be every bit as depressing as the last lot!

@island monkey- the new embrace album won't disappoint you. Lots of Wrist-splitting moments to enjoy in the comfort of your own home!

The album is quite good. Lots of gospel stuff, and Chris Martin obviously helped out on "gravity", which was huge in the UK recently.
Definitely one to buy!

p.s I do not work for Amazon, virgin records etc etc...
