Implications of overstaying a visa a few days

Is there any leeway, or will I be shot at dawn?

Hi. I am non-EU, non-American and my work permit visa will expire very soon. I am hoping to go for and renew it 2 days after it expires (according to the appointment). Are there any problems associated with overstaying by just two days?

when you turn up for your appointment they will

a) take you out the back and shoot you

B) take you to the airport and deport you

c) renew your visa (which is the likely action)

Your info is outdated. After a parliamentary discussion, it was decided some years ago to abandon shootings, because they are too messy (the cleaning ladies wanted a raise, and there weren't enough funds for that). Since then, they take people to Lake Starnberg to drown them.

I thought they only did this if were called Ludwig and spent all of Bavaria's money on building new castles?

As you are the first who is overstaying in 2008, they'll announce you as Bundeskanzler.

I was hoping to get more serous answers.

Ask the Ausländerbehörde ... or wait and see

I was given a major lecture on how they'd call the police if I had been any later (I had my appointment the day my visa expired, so technically still ok)...and the guy said he calls the police all the time.

Just a thought.

Someone tell me that they have at least a few days of leeway? For instance the UK allows up to 28 days of overstay before they will automatically throw out any application for extension.

The "someone" is the place where your application is being dealt with. Opinion from this forum counts for little in a court of law.

I am a US citizen here on an internship. My internship, work permit and consequently my residence visa are up as of May 30th 2008. I am curious as to whether I have to be out of the country on that date or if i can stay a few days extra to wrap everything up here (close bank account, get apartment deposit back, etc.). Is there a way to get another tourist visa? I don't have a planned return date yet and I need to figure this out before I plan something. I would ask my department, but they have been less than knowledgeable with visa matters up to this point. So i decided to skip that. And if I can stay, how long could I stay without having problems?

Thanks!

I don't believe you get any automatic extension or conversion to a Schengen visa waiver. However, the KVR/Ausländerbehörde should be able to give you a temporary document/extension that will allow you to stay a little longer in Germany. Go to that office (you have to go to do your Abmeldung anyway) and bring, for example, a copy of your plane ticket confirmation for your trip back home.

Leaving Germany on a slightly expired visa

Hi everybody

i have finished my studying and am leaving germany to go back to my country. My visa expires on May 28th but the cheapest flight home is on June 10st. I currently have an ficktionbescheinigung visa.

Has anyone here had to leave germany with an expired visa? Is there any banned or arrest at airport?

Thank you.

Have you tried the SEARCH function? This sort of question comes up regularly... Sounds as if your expiry date came as a surprise...

Yes, indeed. I have seen a similar question which is not answered thouroughly. If someone has any experience or has met the same situation, i would appreciate that.

The person who posted the previous topic probably has.

If the question wasn't answered to your satisfaction in any of the previous topics, posting the same question yet again probably isn't going to yield better results.
