Why not wait until she's old enough to decide for herself. In my opinion too she's far too young.

Hm, dunno. Maybe you should try the place where they trim dog's ears to make them more pointy, or wherever it is they do circumcision for older boys.

Why on earth would you want to do this? Its not like the baby wants them so its just for yourself really. Let the kid decide herself when she gets a bit older as to whether she would like pierced ears or not.

in some cultures (Indian, S. American), such as mine, babies get their ears pierced very early, sometimes within the first few days. I actually read not too long ago that babies have a much higher threshold at that time since the birthing process is so painful as is. but here's a site i found.

I'm not alone in my perversion that never pierced ears on an adult female are beautiful.
A physiotherapist of mine has never pierced ears, and she told me her father refused to allow her to get them pierced until she was 18, and when she was 18 she no longer wanted to mutilate herself. I told her to give my respect to her father.
Piercing babies ears is common in Spain and other Meditaranian countries

My mother got my ears pierced when I was a baby. I have to say, it's probably the only thing she's ever done in my life that has really pissed me off. If you want to stick metal through your own flesh then I'm all for it (well, I am for your right to do it anyway, some of it can be pretty ugly) - but don't go sticking metal shit through people who are so small they can't even protest or understand the fucking point of it.
I don't wear earrings any more.

Oh dear, you really don't want to see me today, then.
I had Haggis Junior's ears pierced at Christ (jewelery shop) when she was two years old and easily comforted with an ice cream cone. She refused to wear earrings from years 8 through 16 but the holes were still there, albeit almost invisible. Now she is disgruntled because she is allergic to various metals and can only wear gold comfortably.
As nokareyes pointed out, some cultures do it at an early age. I was speaking to an Indian woman and was surprised that her 1-year-old daughter didn't have earrings, she asked the same question: Where can she have it done in
Germany?
I suppose you can liken piercing ears or other body parts to de-clawed cats and Spock ears on dogs if you like, just don't slag people off who do it just because you think that it's disgusting/unnatural/unhygienic. I had to fight for my first two
piercings, it was the first time I dared "hit back", something I should have done much earlier.

Wouldn't thinking someone's actions are disgusting, unnatural, unhygienic, or (in my case) unnecessarily brutal be among the best reasons to slag people off?

@ Fribble: I'm not saying you can't feel that way but you don't have to tell them. It's like the guy chewing gum on the S-Bahn next to me - a disgusting habit in my opinion but I have the option of sitting somewhere else or trying to ignore him. If you don't like piercings, roll your eyes, shrug your shoulders and look away.

I think it's the fact that it's being done to a 7 month old baby that elicits such a strong reaction in people. I know different cultures do things differently, but that just makes a lot of people go 'EWW'. For God's sake, won't somebody THINK OF THE CHILDREN.

@ Sarabyrd, it's like triumph bob says. I know where you're coming from, but I disagree with you totally. Bad manners don't cause physical pain (most of the time) and I don't find them morally objectionable, just annoying. Having had my share of piercings I know exactly how it feels, and I find it as unnecessarily barbaric to subject a baby to this as to dock an animal's tail. Nor is there any cultural argument for piercing a baby's ears in our society; no baby or toddler will be a pariah because of whole lobes.
Though, to be honest, if someone is really smacking their gum next to me I usually turn to them and make loud smacking noises. Or I do the passive aggressive thing and call a friend to describe the scene loudly while staring at their gaping maw.

My biggest objection to this is on safety grounds. Children do the daftest things and having bits of metal, especially rings, sticking out of their bodies, just asking to get caught on something has always struck me as stupid. That's why neither of my girls had their ears pieced until they were about 10 years old, which is when they asked for it to be done.

Piercing earrings are generally small posts that are pretty much flush with your earlobes, the risk of injury is very small.

I think you can get tiny 'sleepers' earrings for babies, little tiny hoops. have seen babies with studs in though which must be really dangerous cuz they catch on everything.
I'd never pierce my babies' ears. when I got my ears done (at age 16 I think) there was a baby getting her ears pierced too and she was so distressed and screaming poor thing.
to me it just looks wrong on a baby, like make-up on those little pageant girls.
anyway what's wrong with clip-ons?!

If you're worried about people mistaking your baby girl for a boy, get her one of these head garters.

I don't have a problem with people having their babies' ears pierced. I'd argue that it's easier for a parent to keep the area clean and therefore less likely to get infected when the child is an infant. I had my ears pierced when I was 13 and didn't do the best job of cleaning the area, but at that age, I'd never have let my mom do it.
I don't understand the argument that it's not OK to pierce their ears until they ask for it. A child who wants her ears pierced at 10 is just as likely to regret it later as a child whose ears were pierced in babyhood. I remember being very afraid of the pain in advance of getting my ears pierced, which an infant or small child would not experience. Most of the adult women I know have at least one hole in each ear and wear earrings, so why does it matter when they have it done?

Jan 17 2008, 3:52 pm
I would think clip-ons on a baby would be more dangerous b/c they can easily pull them off and swallow them, no?
And if the kid decides she doesn't like earrings, I've always found them to be pretty easy to remove.
As for places, most doctors can pierce ears if you bring the studs.

Where the hell did you get yours done! cartilage piercing is normally forbidden under the age of 16 and the ear should never draw blood. I should know i have a liecense in the UK to pierce ears.
On the whole baby getting ear pierced argument. I had my first set done when i was about three at the same time as my older sister who was 10 at the time. according to my mum mine healed a lot quicker than my sisters as she had more control over mine. Plus i didn't cry as much as my older sis
