It's that time of year again!
We're up and running!
St. Patrick's Day Parade 2008Sunday, 16th March 2008, noon until 6pmThe parade starts at
Muenchener Freiheit at 12 noon and continues along
Leopoldstraße to
Odeonsplatz.
There are stands there where you can get food and beverages of the highest quality while listening to great music and watching mind-boggling Irish dance groups on the large main stage.
Basically the same procedure as every year. A chance to get out and meet people, have fun and break the monotony of Sunday afternoon
sitting at home abusing the spouse and kids.
An afternoon for the whole family! The parade brochures will soon be all over town, so pick one up for more detailed information, or check out:
www.stpatricksday.de Join us. Everyone is welcome.

Ah Mr Town, the mantle of begrudger ill becomes you. Aren't we doing
Bloomsady 2008 with David Norris just for you? There's only so much our little team of voluntary victims can do.

Extensively and eloquently discussed by yourself and all comers
last year, dear Monkstown. Drink Helles then, or bring your own. Or get a beer stand of your own next year and show everyone how it should be done. But you would have to admit it's a party on a grand scale, and all organised by dem furriners too. 12 years of mighty celebrations through sun, snow, wind, rain and hail, and no police trouble whatsoever despite tens of thousands of people. Jolly good show, chaps. Roll on the 13th year.

President Mary McAleese dropped over to Munich on a state visit yesterday and took time to wish the Munich parade every success for 2008.
She even had us invited to the state dinner in the Residenz.
The parade is now officially the largest St. Patrick's Day parade east of the River Liffey and the second largest parade in Europe.
See you all on the 16/03/2008!

Ok, we are new to this...so please explain a bit more. We love St Pat's Day and parades!
Is there a meeting place where TT-people watch the parade or do we march with the parade? I see that there is an after-party but it does not say where it is?
Thanks.
garibaldi
Mar 4 2008, 11:02 pm
DandL, read the thread. Then check out the website:
All About The Parade The Potting Shed is doing a week long celebration of the Parade and St. Patrick leading up to the big day on 16/03/2008.
Go there and go to the Parade as well.
In other words no, there has not yet been a meeting place arranged for people who want to watch the parade in a group. Feel free to suggest a place and ask if others are going to. I'm going to be on a float myself, I believe that's the best way to go, but DandL dear, you don't have red hair.
The after-party is probably on
Odeonsplatz as the parade ends there.

Dear People,
ALL the information in on the website:
www.stpatricksday.de
Please log in using your computer thingy. Even I can do that and I
don't have a computer!
50,00 brochures have been distributed all over town. Pick one up!
Now apologies if I'm sound edgy, it's just that I'm edgy today - that's all.
The free party is on
Odeonsplatz 13:00 - 18:00Hrs and there will be
about 10-15,000 peeps there.
All in all we expect anything up to 35,000 at this year's parade.
Gen - I shall be discussing the aspect of your red hair with you in
private at a later date.
Not everyone gets on a float - seems you have to know the right people
and cavort in high places!
Non-Believers walk! - Believers float!

St. Patrick's Day is on the 15. March this year.

And do not take this to mean “to take aim and throw candy at anyone in particular…..
Garibaldi,
Thank you for the comments; however, I did look at your web site, more than once and last year’s thread. I just was not clear if any of the activities on the website had anything to do with TT or anyone meeting up to watch/walk the parade route. Gen, just cleared that up for me. Thanks.
This in our first, St Patty’s Day, here in Germany and back home we have a cheesy parade but a great party! So just wanted to make sure I don’t miss anything this year here. Edginess forgiven.
Garibaldi's having forgotten what real red hair looks like is also forgiven. He'll see -- it's not just my curly locks gettin' me in on the good stuff.

Don't forget that the Hair Police will be present at
Münchner Freiheit.
Those going along on floats must have hair akin to the following:

Gen, I don't doubt that your hair is red, it's just that I've only ever met you once and
it was quite dark.
Anyway, I'll have word with the Hair Commissioner just in case - he's good with colours.
No problem Grand Marshal sir, I'll wear it down then and not up in a bun.

Mr. Garibaldi, I think that's absolutely splendid work you're doing there. But all this hair puts me in mind of a certain gentleman not in possession of such fine tresses as the young cailin pictured (or indeed our esteemed poster Gen), whose own hair loss would appear to have precipitated an unfortunate impairment in his faculty for flag maintenance.
On the night of the 12th of March, a crack team of leprechaun commandos will deposit all the equipment necessary on the steps of the Irish Consulate in Munich. This will include one green bucket, one box of Vanish, a funny-shaped coin for the Waschsalon down the road should his eczema be acting up again, some Lenor and a set of hand-sketched, childproof instructions for washing the Irish flag.
If you could get his size in Marigolds I'd be most grateful.

One of the worst pieces of telly ever was Lejeune's "special" on the Irish President's visit last week, plumbing the depths even for notoriously crap channel TV München. Apart from choosing camera angles that made him look even more of a Venusian than normal, he described himself as an "Irlandkenner" and for lack of other interview partners, interviewed his own wife ("Irlandkennerin" of course. Reminded me of "Ich als Zahnarztfrau...") The programme did include the humorous start to Mary Mc's speech though, left uncommented in English because Lejeune's own English wasn't good enough to translate or understand it and he's too cheap to hire an interpreter. Baldy b*llocks. Oh, and the sequence at the end, which should have shown the Prez's car sweeping majestically out of the Vier Jahreszeiten, showed the one member of the motorbike escort whose bike wouldn't start, plus the car having to do a tricky bit of reversing to make the tight corner.
Well, at least he's washed the flag.

He's wearing the only bit of token paddywhacking Irishry in his wardrobe. That's his one and only Irish outfit - his wife has been wearing the same green suit and scarf at every Irish event for the past umpty years too. Oh, hang on, the bólaighs has a green scarf too

I have worn many outfits that have passed under the fashion radar as they did not fall within the rough parameters of "clothing that has to be judged according to it's appearance", so I may not qualify as a critic.
However that combination of white collar, emergency signalling green and polka dots would have even the most quiet manned, returned yank golfer smearing his green coloured contact lenses with peanutbutter and applying to live in a very dark cave, with the lights off.
Jaysus, talk about an ensemble perfect for radio.
Punchbear
Mar 6 2008, 5:10 pm
Not even Willy Wonka could pull an ensemble like that one off.
In this case pulling it off might actually worsen the general situation, throwing a large shawl over it could be seen as an improvement.
I have a picture of some sort of skinhead Peig floating in my central lobes now.

Since the parade is getting so fierce close that it is nearly upon us - 16/03/2008, I thought I'd bump the

and take this almighty powerful chance to wish you all a HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S WEEKEND.

Du bist also in bester Gesellschaft.
