Where to buy Lipton tea bags

Hunting for American black tea

I'm looking to brew some hot tea, Mississippi-style, which means using good ole Lipton tea bags.

Has anyone seen them around here in Hamburg? I've looked at the Aldi in my neighborhood, and in the U.S. aisle of Karstadt in the Wandsbek Quarree. Are there other suggestions?

Excuse me? I'm sure that famous Scotsman, Thomas Lipton would be turning in his grave if he reads this forum...
If you want decent black (or other) Tea in Hamburg, check out Royal Quality Tea (but they don't stoop so low as to offer Liptons...)

@YorkshireLad6

Did I say Lipton was invented in the States? dry.gif

In Mississippi, 'Lipton' is synonymous with 'tea'. As the weather is hot and humid, we typically use Lipton to make sun-brewed sweetened iced tea. Sometimes, we drink it hot. Lipton tea has a unique sweetness which will always remind me of home. No other high quality tea will be able to fool my southern belle tongue.

BTW - Thanks for the link to Royal Quality Tea. I will probably stop by there sometime soon as I do drink many varieties of tea, not only Lipton.

Lipton is owned by Unilever, an Anglo-Dutch company, that mixes mostly Indian or Kenya tea with local blend when available.

Chk out in the Indian shops around hauptbhanoff or Harburg region. I have seen Lipton tea bags there, but not sure which blend it is

I stopped by Toom this weekend. They have Lipton Iced Tea in the bottles, but no Lipton tea bags.

@ Styler - Thanks for your suggestion. I'm heading to the Colonnaden this afternoon, so I'll look around the main train station as you suggested. I'm going to try Mutterland, Tamascha and the Indischer Supermarkt. All three got great reviews on Qype.

I've had no luck finding Lipton tea bags in Hamburg. I tried:

1) Indischer Supermarkt at Lange Reihe 11 near the main train station, Hauptbahnhof Süd
2) Tamascha at Lange Reihe 23
3) Real

Alas.

Have you tried the English shops in Hamburg?

There's one in Stresemannstr. near Holstenstr. s-Bahn and one in Eppendorf in Hegestr.

The Indian shops usually have PG tip

Try the food section at Karstadt Mönckebergstraße and Galeria Kaufhof Mönckebergstraße - they both stock a lot of English and American food.

There's also a British food shop near the Eppendorfer Baum station on Hegesstrasse. They might carry some. I can't remember the name of the place, but the Union Jack is hanging over the door. You can't miss it.

They have a webshop too but Liptons doesn't feature on it - only PG Tips, Tetley, Twinings, Typhoo and (of course!) Yorkshire Tea. With the latter on the list who needs any of the others?

Wow, y’all are all so helpful!

It’s been a while since I logged on, so my list of places to try now includes:

1. English Books Hamburg, Stresemannstraße 169 in Hamburg-Altona Nord
2. Karstadt, Mönckebergstraße 16 in Hamburg-Altstadt
3. Galeria Kaufhof, Mönckebergstraße 3 in Hamburg-Altstadt
4. British Shopping, Hegestraße 30 in Hamburg-Hoheluft Ost

Thanks to mcleans, Hammonia, PayolaDL and YorkshireLad6!

BTW, I found the address for the place with the Union Jack hanging over the door by using Qype (www.qype.co.uk/de).

The hunt continues…
