Tomorrow is the big day. We have a great lineup and we are always looking for new poets, so come through and check out the show and talk to the organizers!

See you tomorrow, Berlin...

Berlin's hottest English language poetry and spoken word showcase returns to ring in the new year with all new Beat Street performers:

Anthony Baggette is an Ohio native whose been in Berlin since there were two Berlins. Jazz poet, basketball coach, eV organizer, dancer, teacher...this incredible performer graces the Beat Street stage for the first time.

Anna Nowok cut her teeth in the German slam scene. She's young, brash, and the first German we have featured at Beat Street. No worries, she is going to do some her English stuff for us who struggle with der, die, and das.

Rob Grant, the Beat Street founder will be on hand to do some of his new work from this winter.

And our fourth poet is...undecided. But you will be the first to know as soon as we do.

Come see the talk on the town!

Thursday 17th Jan 2008. Starting 9pm at ‘The Hazelwood’ Chorinerstr. 72

Hello all you Beaters out there. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a Merry New Year. We’re starting as we mean to go on in 2008 with a very special show. Not only welcoming two new poets to the Beatstreet clan, but witnessing the first host night of Mike (should be fun!) Hope you can make the start of this year as much fun as the end of last. Keep Beating! http://www.myspace.com/beatstreetpoetryberlin

The line up:

ROBERT GRANT is a writer and performance poet. First published in 2005 he has appeared on numerous stages in England and America. Now living and working in Berlin, he is the founder and co-organiser of Beatstreet. Recently described as the Bukowski of Berlin (which he took as a great compliment) his observational poetry can sometimes be controversial, sometimes sweet, but always powerful.

ANTHONY BAGETTE is a berlin legend. This Ohio native whose been in Berlin since there were two Berlins, is truely a unique voice in the poetry scene. Jazz poet, basketball coach, eV organizer, dancer, teacher...this incredible performer graces the Beat Street stage for the first of many times, we hope. His cool-hard words are something truely special and should not be missed.

ANNA NOWOK cut her teeth in the German slam scene. She's young, brash, and the first German we have featured at BeatStreet. No worries, she is going to do some of her English stuff for all who struggle with der, die, and das. Her talent is unquestionable, her style is unforgetable and her words, remarkable!

Special guest host MIKE HAEF is a Chicago based poet, now living and working in Berlin. His impressive Berlin reputation has been built on strong european performances and his clever, mellow wit. Now a co-organiser of Beatstreet and other Berlin based poetry events, this will be his first night Hosting!

And we welcome back LISA HOLIS, the hit from Beatstreet one. This thoughful poets quiet demena only strengthen the true weight of her voice. What more can I say?

Do you just turn up to this?! It sounds interesting.

Also how do you get there and how long does it last?
mikehaef
Attention Beat Streeters:

We have had an almost-last-minute change of venue:

You can find us at Christinenstr. 27, in Mitte.
It's off Torstr. between Rosa-Luxemborg-Platz and Rosenthalerstr. U-Bahnhofen.

Check out the map:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...c=addr&om=1

Still January 17 and still at 9pm. Just come on through, we'll be happy to see you!
Charlotte
What is the new place called???

Charlotte
mikehaef
It doesn't have a name, because it is a new establishment owned by the owners of the Hazelwood. The h'wood is undergoing renovations, but the show info was not passed on from owner to owner. So when the new owner found out we were supposed to do a show at h'wood, he offered us another place he owns.

Worry not, it will be amply signaged.
mikehaef
Hello all:

We have a slight lineup change for the upcoming show. Anthony Baggette can't make it, so Michael Haeflinger is gonna sit in for the night. Don't worry, we'll have Anthony another month.

I missed the March event but I am already looking forward to the 24th April !
mikehaef
Hey everyone...

The support for Beat Street in the last seven months has been tremendous. We have had some great poets come through, some living in Berlin, some traveling. Different nationalities, different styles, substances and forms.

But our search continues. If you, or anyone you know, is a poet who does work in English, let us know. We are always striving to give voice to the many poets who come through this wonderfully diverse little burg in Central Europe. Even folks living out of country, we are happy to oblige drifters, and as the summer bumming months approach, we would love to get a little of that road dust on our brows, as well. At least on our stage...

Coming in May, we are happy to have Clear Blue Water e.V.'s Rob Lowe Poetry Awards. More details on that as it unfolds, but it is a juried poetry contest with cash prizes. Come one come all!

Talk to you soon and thanks again for checking in!

April's Beat Street is shaping up to be a crazy mix of poetic awesomeocity!

Dig it:

We welcome back Lady Gaby, a Berlin legend. Romanian-born, Australian-reared, and Berlin-fortified, her spoken word performances and wordplay invite thoughtfulness and cheering.

In for her first Beat Street performance we are happy to have USAer Cera Impala, one sixth of the Berlin bluegrass and old timey outift, The New Prohibition Band. Cera will leave her banjo at home but dazzle us with her words.

Rob Grant will do a set of his often-funny, often-thought provoking, always intense words. Birdies told us that he may have written some new stuff. New stuff from Rob? Rumors being what they are, it's hard to say. Sorry Rob, rumours.

Dirk Ronnenburg will be our musical guest, playing some songs for us between sets. He is another sixth of the NPB and has a wicked cool dobro and satchel full of blues tunes.

Your host is Mike Haef. The lyrical master, the rhyme disaster. What you heard!

See you FRIDAY April 25th

Hi Mike

My name's Dave - I'm a writer here in Berlin for next few months - how exactly can one get involved in the poetry readings? Is there any room for open Mic or is
it all scheduled performers? If so, how can I get on the roster?

Thanks

Yes, I think it's 46 degrees

There once was a fine limmerick writer
Who worked on a limmerick all nighter
When he was done
It was so much fun
He went to the store and bought some pudding

Wait. Something isn't right here.

Limmericks welcome.

No triolets. I'll eat my hat before I accept triolets!

46 Degress? Thats a bit too much - still, glad its not just 3 degrees, because I cant be arsed singing it..

A Limerick packs laughs anatomical,
into space that is quite economical,
But the ones I have seen,
are seldom so clean,
and the clean ones are seldon so comical!

Good show by the way way on Friday - how drunk was Rob?? See you at the next one, hopefully!
