Flights to Valencia from Cologne

Hi all,

My parents are coming to visit us in February and then want to fly to Valencia, Spain. We live in Cologne and could only find flights to Valencia with long layovers in Palma with AirBerlin. My mother found a flight to Alicante with RyanAir (very cheap!) from Frankfurt Hahn, but someone told me you have to drive to that airport as there is no easy public transportation there. How far is it from Cologne? Or does anyone have a better suggestion to fly to Valencia from Cologne? Thanks!

Accept for the Shuttle Busses from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof,Frankfurt International, and Mainz Hauptbahnhof, there is no public transportation.
Bus Schedules (Buses to Hahn are run by private companies, not the local Public Transport. Separate tickets must be purchased.)

there is a train station there somewhere if I remember correctly...is a local bus ride away from the airport though...will check it out

Bohr Omnibusse go from Köln Hauptbahnhof, bus station at the Breslauer Platz, duration: 2 h. 15 min.

Cost: 15,00 €

Well, according to the DB Fahrplan, it's not possible to take a train to Hahn.

The closest you can get by train is Sohren, which is a 3.5 hr train ride and 3 changes from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof.
Once you get to Sohren, its a 8min Taxi ride.

Hahn Airport no doubt spent a lot of time and money creating a website full of information, including information on travelling there by public transport from, among other places, Köln.

So go on, make their investment worthwhile by visiting their website. I'll even provide you with the link in case typing "Hahn" into Google is too complicated. Here you go!

The BOHR bus servive from Köln would be your best bet. Ive used them a few times travelling from Mainz to Frankfurt Hahn, always prompt and on time.

I'm sitting in my office and am about 20 kms from Hahn Airport, which is actually nearer to Lautzenhausen than Hahn but that's btb. In fact I was there two days ago to pick up my father-in-law who flew in from Malaga.
As others have told you there are very few local transport services around Hahn, but the Bohr services are very reliable and very cost effective. However, should push come to shove, the nearest, convenient, railway station is BULLAY, (mainline Koblenz-Trier) in the Mosel Valley, and from there it's a 20m km taxi ride. If you need any additional info feel free to ask.

Where's the station in Sohren ? I might be wrong but I suspect DB are showing you a public service bus link as I've driven through the place a hundred times and never seen a station. Blink and you miss Sohren. I'll check it out.

5 Mins later (less actually) Sohren Bahnhof is a bus stop.

Well I don't know how cheap a flight you want, but Lufthansa has flights from Düsseldorf to Valencia direct for €102 for Feb, not many dates left so you had better get on it if you want that.

Ryan Air also goes from Düsseldorf to Valencia, is there a reason that you want to go from Hahn??

Just for Info: Ryanair flights ex Düsseldorf are from Weeze (the former RAF Laarbruch), which is nearly as isolated as Hahn.

Wow--thanks for all the replies! So, how easy is it to drive to this Weeze airport outside of Düsseldorf from Köln/Sülz?

While you are checking how to get to weeze, you might also want to check on exactly where "Valencia" airport is according to Ryan Air, might not be anywhere near Valencia.

Weeze is really easy to get to. I have travelled to, and from both airports, and find the drive to Hahn quite complicated and easy to get lost after leaving the motorway.
Weeze airport is only about 10 minutes away from the motorway exit ( A57 ), and very well signposted.
I`d definitely recommend it ( even if it`s not that nice looking )
