NEW INFO!!!

Just got a note from Madgibson who went to Joe's and said they now make you fill out a membership card (must give name and DOB) in order to eat there as they are making themselves one of the "smoking clubs".

How do you all feel about this?

Do you want to keep it at Joe Penas or change venue??

There is no cost involved and there is only smoking at the bar - not at the tables.

Let me know in the next week or so what you think.

Very disappointed but I can't make it anyway.

I'd prefer in future to stick to non smoking establishments.

I'm not coming anyway, but if I was, I wouldn't be. I've been to a few places since the introduction of the ban and it is so much better without smoking. If you do decide to change, I hope you will tell them your reason.

Options

1. Another Mexican restaurant in Munich - give suggestion if you are still attending and have a suggestion.

a. Mexi's
b. Bamberghaus - Cantina Mexicana Churrascaria Brasil.

or

2. Change in cuisine - How about Afgan -Lemars (the one in Schwabing, not Sendling Tor).

And YES I will be informing Joe Pena's of their loss of business due this.

El Patio in Schwabing is really good...but also really small. One placre that is a similar concept to Joe Penas is Enchilada on Gabelsbergerstrasse...also have happy hour until 8pm but I haven't ever eaten there so can't say.

I'd also be happy with Lemar's...the one in the city is excellent.

We just ate there on Friday and it is very good, but we were only 10 and already took up the entire seating area (btw-those who left early missed tequila shots ) so that won't work.

I am out of town most of next week so won't be on so much. Please post your opinions/suggestions and I will take a look at it all when I get back and post what the majority thinks.

Ok, I'll pitch in. I was about to post a new thread for an Afgan night at Lemar the week after the mexican. How many would be interested in having dinner at Lemar on the 15th? Or we could change the whole thing to the 21st which was the date I was originally planning for this. For me it's easier to do the 21st than the 15th, but I could work it out if it has to be done.

Thoughts?

@Babs, I'm not trying to hijack your event. Just as I was planning to organise a dinner at Lemar the following week and this one is not going well, then I think it's not a bad idea to try to make it one and adjust a couple of things here and there.

@Panama - no worries my friend. Maybe enough people will want to try one of the other Mex places listed and this will still go ahead. I ended up with the 15th as worked for most - but maybe we will end up with 2 in the end - or 1 - makes me no difference. I could do both!

Best would be for people to voice opinions here and we can decide in a week what we have.

If keeping the mexican topic is still what the majority wants to do, Tacos y Tequila is not bad either. And I think they could accomodate a larger group.

I vote for keeping this Mexican. Preferably not T&T but don't mind which of the others.

I'm still in favour of going Mexican and Mexi's sounds good.

I would definitely like to keep it Mexican, tho I will have to leave it up to better informed TTer's the suggest which venue.

I'd prefer to keep it Mexican too! Enchiladas is ok. Anyone tried El Gordo Loco (Mariannenstr.)? - keep meaning to try it out. It might be a possibility. Of course there is also Don Luca's on Leopoldstr. - food not so good but plenty of room for a group.

I've heard from another TTerin that El Gordo Loco is very good. Haven't been there myself though.
And last night I was completely knackered from two days of skiing and got my restaurants and dinners confused. So just keep this going as it is and I will post later about Feb. 21st. Silly me.

Please dont change the date!!! I have to go into hospital on the 22nd. 15th as originally decided if possible!!

I vote for mexican, but I´m easy about the choice of restaurant.
The week after might be too late for us as well...

I would still have gone to Joe Pena's, as I don't recall it being unpleasantly smoky at the first TT do there. Although if they've turned it into a "smokers' club" now, could be that it attracts a different kind of clientele, the kind who go there with the sole objective of smoking. Pity. Anyway Eurobabs, like Allershausen said, hope you tell them why you've cancelled the event.

We will leave it Mexican (and yes, I have called and spoken to the manager. He kept saying - there is only smoking at the bar - I told him it was the principle!)

So, I am going to go ahead and set it to Mexi and has come recommended by several and I have never been.

Update- Mexi's is definately closed! Darn, was awesome food there, too bad.

from my experience the service there sucks, the cocktails are great, but you wait forever.

Well, what about the El Gordo Loco? It got not bad reviews from some TTers...maybe someone who has been recently could post and comment on it!

I'm still up for going to Joe Penas, is it really such a big deal that there is smoking at the bar?

I was at Joe P's last Thurs. and am going again tomorrow (so that my other friends can smoke)...it wasn't so bad, although you do smell of smoke afterwards - having said that you'd still smell of fat anyway even without the smoke!

As far as I recall, it wasn't a big deal at the first Joe Pena's night, before the smoking ban.

What is exactly the objection to Joe Pena's now - is it the smoke, or the fact that you have to provide personal information (name, date of birth)?

I think its a combo of both.

How about Sausalito´s on Türkenstrasse?
