The 42nd Superbowl* is happening on Sunday 3rd February, so:

(1) Does anyone know of any bars / venues that will be showing the game (apart from O'Reilly's, natch, as it would be nice to go somewhere for a change different to watch sport), and
(2) Anyone up for a party/get-together in said/the chosen venue?

Discuss.

* for those of you not aware of this annual event, it is the "Grand Finale" of the American Football season. You don't have to be a fan of this or indeed any other sport to get into the party atmosphere - it's the spectacle that counts with this one! Of course, if you are into sport - then you know what you're in for cool.gif

What time would kick off be?
Kuzzer
It's a late one (or early, depending how you look at it) for us Yoorpeans - kick-off is 4.18pm US Mountain Time, which equates to 6.18pm EST, and <gulp> 00.18am CET

Plan on the game being over c. 4 hours post-kick off. Red Bull is the answer wacko.gif

I'm planning to take the Monday off!

That the final sunday in faschings... not sure how much of frankfurt is celebrating then...
Kuzzer
I would have thought that as this is in the final week of Faschings, it's a *perfect* excuse for an all-nighter!

Anyone interested in trying to find a spot to watch the playoff games as well? (provided they arent the ones that start at 8PM EST) smile.gif

Not a huge fan myself but my other half is...apparently there will be a SuperBowl Party in the Jahrhunderthalle in Hoechst. You can get tickets at http://www.frankfurt-galaxy.de/HTMLNEU/tic...ts_online.shtml. Not sure if this helps your quest but I am mighty glad I will be back in good old UK that night tongue.gif

Sorry, may have just given you a link to last year...but maybe it still takes you to the page for this year as there is def a party on there!

Anyone interested in trying to find a spot to watch the playoff games as well? (provided they arent the ones that start at 8PM EST)

Hi everyone,

I just moved to Frankfurt and am looking for a place to watch the playoff games. I'd also like to watch the 8PM EST one next Saturday (the Pats)... are there any sports bars here that are open until 6 AM on a Saturday night? And anyone up for a game starting at 2?

Thanks!

I am possibly down for this Saturday as I am a huge Pats fan provided that I am feeling up to the insanely long night! Depending on who is in what area (I am in ther Mainz/Wiesbaden area) we could go to one of the YOURS sports bars that may be showing it, or to O'Reilly's in Frankfurt (pretty sure they will be showing it) though that is a bit far for me. But those are some options for anyone interested!

Hey folks,

I'm actually in the Ruhrgebiet for the weekend, and it looks like I'll be watching the Patriots game at a bar in Duesseldorf (yes, starting at 2 AM). If anyone's nearby, let me know! ;-)

That said, I'm definitely up for some more playoff games next weekend in Frankfurt, as well as for the Superbowl!

Hi All

Great - looks like we're getting some traction here for next weekend and for the 'Bowl itself. Let me do some digging . . . but if O'Reillys is staying open that late, I think the decision sort of makes itself, no?

Hello folks - Sam's Sportsbar in Sachsenhausen is staying open late for the Superbowl http://www.samssportsbar.de , as is Yours in Bergerstr. http://www.yours-bars.de/sports_bar_ffm/find.htm

I think Sam's might be the best option. Still trying to decide if I can really be bothered to stay up until 5am to watch a game I don't really care about...then again, it's a good excuse to drink plenty of beers.
jrp8290
I ust say I was a bit disappointed to be put out on the street in the middle of watching the Pats game at O'Reilly's! That was TORTURE!!! ohmy.gif
Kuzzer
I'm liking the look of Sam's.

Sam's is decent enough...went there on Saturday with the Afpelwein group It was REALLY crowded when we were there, however. It was also a Sat night but there were only a few big TV's that I saw playing the game and those areas were too crowded to find a place to sit. The other Tv's scattered around were pretty small and hard to watch with people walking by. So that's my two cents, other than that seems like a good option!
nick60599
I reckon with Sam's you may need to book a table. Best place would be upstairs with the big projector although I wager someone may have got there first.

I'm definitely in for watching the playoffs this Sunday! The Pats/Chargers game will start at 21:00 over here, and the Packers/Giants at 00:30. How late is Sam's open? I need to see the Pats game in it's entirety smile.gif and would like to catch the full Packers/Giants game...

See you Sunday!

Justin
jrp8290
as for the playoff game(s) this sunday, I wouldn't mind trying out the YOURS sports bar in Wiesbaden, it seems a bit bigger and they have all the greasy american food and beer you could want for your viewing pleasure! Any thoughts?
jrp8290
Ok so anybody in for this Sunday? Name your venue of choice and let's git er dun smile.gif

Hi everyone,

I'm definitely in for the Pats game and probably the Packers game too. I'd personally prefer to stay in Frankfurt. O'Reilly's or Sam's sounds fine to me, although in truth, I've never been to either!

Shall we meet up around 8:30?

See you all Sunday,

Justin
jrp8290
Unfortunately, I think I will have to root in a bar closer to me as I wouldn't be able to get home that late (the trains run until 12:17 or so, but the buses from the train station in mainz stop running)... so unless Wiesbaden is an option for anyone, hope you all have fun in Frankfurt!
nashira78
hey everybody,

here's a link to the local radio station FFH. The past years they've been setting up superbowl partys. Since Frankfurt was the home of one of the six NFL Europe League teams, The Frankfurt Galaxy, it always was a blast. Last year the League was shut down, but the spirit and the fans are still alive and we won't miss out on our tradition! ;-)

The ticket costs are 15€. But it's not only watching the game... most of the Galaxy fans and other Football fans will be there, there's going to be dancing Cheerleaders, food and drink, prizes to win and lots of fun people to mingle with. It's located next to the Commerzbank Arena right of Kennedy Allee.

So if you're interested...http://www.etainme.de/?art_id=3297&eve_id=19709&partner=19&cit_id=16760
(the link is in German only, sorry!)

And if anybody's interest in the American Football that has survived the NFL Europe Leage, check out this site: http://www.universe-frankfurt.de/component...tpage/Itemid,1/
The fans of the Frankfurt Galaxy have founded an own American Football Club and a team, Frankfurt Universe, to continue from where the Galaxy left off.
Season's staring this year. Details can be found on the page. Help us keep the spirit alive!

Have a great weekend!

Hi everyone,

I'll be at O'Rielly's tonight starting around 8:45 or so... hope to see some of you there! (You can't miss me: tall American guy in gray Patriots hoodie)

Justin
jrp8290
Please tell me that your gray hoodie had cut-off belichick sleeves!!! haha
jl8
Nah, not in the Belichick "Hobo Gear" style... this is my lucky sweatshirt, every Pats game I've watched with it, they've won! No wonder they've gone undefeated this season!

So what are people thinking for watching the Superbowl?
jrp8290
Ummm did you hear about Brady having his right leg in a walking cast? Not what I want to see!

I am not sure what I will be doing for the Superbowl...Saturday is a big Carneval day/night of drinking and Monday morning we will begin Rosenmontag festivities around 9 or 10AM...as well as staying up all night for the bowl haha So still not 100% sure if I'll go to frankfurt...but who knows, the trains will be up and running and recovering for a few days afterward may make it all worthwhile smile.gif

Hey,

I just happened to find this post regarding the SuperBowl; is there going to be anyone from here watching it at either Frankfurt or Wiesbaden? Throughout the year I went to the Your's Sports Bar in Wiesbaden to watch games. I must say that it was pretty good to watch a game there, but I'm sure the Yours Bar in Frankfurt as well as Sam's should be fine as well.

I was lucky enough to be back in the States throughout the playoffs; but since I'm back in Germany now, I was planning to head back to Wiesbaden for the Big Game. However, if there a group going somewhere else, I'm always up for meeting new people, drinking plenty of beer, and watching Football!

So what does everyone think?
