My sister arrives in Köln from London at about 7pm on the 24th and she wants to go out for a few drinks (as we would normally do on christmas eve) but I have been told that nothing will be open on the 24th so we are totally stuffed if we want anything to eat or drink. Is this true? Does anyone know anywhere in Köln that might be open? Would really appreciate any help!

Stores will mostly close between 12 and 6pm. Some eating and drinking establishments will be open, but will be crowded due to many others closing. I suggest find a place that will be open and make a reservation and I wouldn't wait too long to do it either.

Shops will generally be open until midday. Whether restaurants etc are open in the evening is open to question. The evening of the 24th is Christmas in Germany as opposed to the 25th which isnt as shut down as UK would be (or used to be when I lived there).
