Friday Night Drinking Club (FNDC) - Frankfurt

I have decided to take the "vodka and redbull" by the horns and see peoples thoughts on this ?

I am thinking the inaugural "meetup" should be in Sachsenhausen, circa 200 bars and restaurants, cannot go wrong.

I was involved in another expat communtiy were this was huge, although we did it on wednesdays ! I even got the tshirt to prove it !

Well, it looks like everyone in HD & Mannheim has left on holiday so I think I may have to take a road trip for this!!!

This Friday or Next Friday?? No matter...I may just be there for both!

Is there soing to be someone carrying a TT flag on a stick so we know who's who??

well, looks like i am here til saturday, so can make this friday night. what is it they say, 3 is a crowd ? well there will be at least 4 f us, so that is a start ! FNDC begins !

ok, as this is my baby, and as i am technically Irish, what about o'dwyers (the big one) irish pub on the neuer wall ? then we can take it from there and bounce about all the old fashioned pubs.

I leave on Friday afternoon for Wales so won't be able to make this one. As for next time well am away quite a bit in January but will be along at some point. I'd personally prefer an establishment other than those in Alt Sachsenhausen but if that is where it is happening then so be it.

Oh and I'll hold everyone responsible for Prob +1's inevitable drunken behaviour

Hm..may not be until 8:00 ish for me.

Hubs has to come home from Darmstadt..45 minutes. 45-60 minutes to Frankfurt...depending on traffic...yep about 8 ish!

Do you have an address for the first pub?? (Thank god for GPS...otherwise I'd get lost in a paper sack! )

p.s. Dont forget to bring the TT flag. Germans hate it when I sit at the table with them by accident! Mean buggers they are!

I will reserve an area in the bar and have some reserved signs with TT /FNDC on them. If you cannot see the signs ask the bar staff where the TT crowd is.

Anytime between 7-8 is fine. I am quite sure we will be there til 10ish, then move on somewhere else.

Ok, I must get off TT and fix my hair, find shoes that I won't bust my butt in...(we have 3 days worth of frost that has not melted and is beginning to look like snow!) and dig up a very thick sweater and mittens. *shiver*shiver*chatter*chatter*

Due to the semi success of the pilot run, (FNDC I, 21/12/07) and to all the wonderful people who showed up. I think there is genuine interest in this, so perhaps we could go for another FNDC event soon ?

Well, since you guys know more about the area than I do...I can't offer too much help on the venue!

I do remember a big Irish pub not too far from the train station...It's been a couple years since I have been. Anyone know the name of it?

It was quite lively..they had "Paddyoke", pool tables...and late in the evening it was standing room only.

Anyways...

We also like the My Sushi that's not too far from there, so if anyone likes baby octopus and raw tuna they have all you can eat in 90 minutes for 19,50 yoyos. (Hubs always has plates stacked to the ceiling.. and I clean them out of hot sake.lol) Requires a reservation though, but it's pretty good!

Ok, other than techno dance clubs (which I don't think anyone wants to go to, but if you do let me know...) that's the extent of my k-nowledge and suggestions.

Now the Sushi place is tempting too. I am a possible not 100% sure on my plans for that weekend. Oh and of course count Prob+1 in too. I guess that makes us Prob & Prob+1 then

@Muffin: We can get together for sushi any weekend, preferably a Saturday since it take us a while to get there. Just let me know! I've been craving squid.

Can we try and find somewhere Nordend/Westend? Would be good (I think in general) to try to find some places that aren't in the Sachsenhausen / HBf areas for a change.

There is a Sushi night however not been one for a long time so I think maybe it is time to have one soon.

I quite like Eat Drink Man Woman in Nordend it is a nice relaxed atmosphere and perfect for Friday night drinking. Also there is a little food menu for those who are peckish. I'll need to have a think for more places. I don't really know Westend that well.

So nowhere too fancy and no shit holes. Also, nowhere too small !

so bearing that in mind, anymore suggestions ?

Bar Celona is nice and pretty. Or there is the Helium bar a few doors down from that. Both of these are within a few minutes walk of the Hauptwache.

Or there is the Bull & Bear on Schillerstr.

Another favourite of mine is Schöneberger

Yup - know them both - and can vouch for the fieryness of the Pimentos di Padron at Bar-Celona

Nevertheless, would still like to go a bit further out of the centre if poss . . . I'm feeling adventurous.

When is this night of drinkin takin place?! I'm interested in joining in, as random as that is seein as u guys seem to already know each other. Never met people off tinternet before, but would like to meet a few more locals and go out with a different crowd and spose ya gotta be adventurous at some point.

"proroz" a bit of an FYI, most of us had not met each other until last Saturday ! 13 of us (boys and girls!) joined up and went round some pubs in Sachsenhausen. You are more than welcome to join the next one, which will be this friday.

What about waxys, you know the new place ? it was suggested to me recently. Thought it was a good idea, very central.

I get the vibe schoneberger is not really a friday night place.

Although, I have been wrong before (only once though and I was 7! haha!!)

have never been there either as it's pretty new (right?) so would be up for giving it a try, Schöneberger is also cool on a Friday and always a winner so as far as I'm concerned either is good!

I´m up for it too...although don´t want the same head as Sunday...12 hours drinking...ouch!!!
