Can somebdoy tell me where to go to get the wax removed from my ears?
thanks.
pablo
A doctor can do it I suppose. All they do is put some water in your ears and flush it out as far as I know.
jml
Check with Elfenstar, she mentioned seeing an ear doctor on a previous thread.

yeah, go to an HNO... I went to dr. pere on nymphemburgerstr for a sinus problem, not ear wax... but he can prolly do it.

oh yeah, and when i had it done here in vienna (i assume its gonna be the same in munich) they didnt just flush it out with water... they have special tweezer type things that they stick in ur ears n pull it out. the doctor told me it gets there from the shower or sumfin and when u wash ur ears u r more than likely just pushing the shit in there rather than getting it out. shrug.

Well I went recently to a HNO, and they now do this in Munich also with the tweezers, its horrible, I prefer the water method !
erdbeere
o i never had the water method but the tweezer things were cool. felt great afterwards tongue.gif

If you have the water method then it's best to soften the wax first over 2 or 3 days using olive oil. Then they'll use a water syringe or, better still, a water pump to spray water into your ear. It's a really weird, but nice, feeling and one that manages to roll my eyes!! Afterwards though the slightest noise sounds really amplified! I made the mistake of wearing a Gortex jacket and the noise from that was deafening!
profundo
The solution to use to best soften the situation is Hydrogen Peroxide. H202. Don't know if it exists over here over the counter but a quick trip to your doc could get you a perscription for it if it does.

I needed that as a kid often and did the whole ear flushing bit as well.

Does anyone know if they sell H202 over here? It doubles as a disinfectant for minor cuts and scrapes and is also good as a mouthwash. In the US it is really cheap (79cents a bottle) and is found in every corner drugstore. I haven't seen it here yet.
Kza
Of course hydrogen peroxide is available. In German its called Wasserstoffperoxid. It may be sold as an end product though. For example my mellerud schimmel entferner has just one ingredient 100g/Litre hydrogen peroxide. And thats quite strong, if you spray it around you dont really wanna breath, and its fumes make your eyes sting. Unfortunatley its not that strait forward to make H2O2 at home.

If you do get some 100g/L solution and want to use it on your body you will have to dilute it first! Dilute it down to 3% or less or you risk bleaching your skin. So mix each part of 100g/L H2O2 with 4 parts water first.
yomama
If you look around you will even find 30% H2O2 in 1L bottles. Adding a drop or two of that to your Crest Whitestrips/Blend-a-med Whitestrips will produce perfectly white teeth in 2 days.

Go to a Chemist (Aphothek) and they will sell you some drops you can put in your ears to soften the wax. Not sure if it contains H2O2. They will also sell you a rubber device for injecting a stream of water into your ears to flush it out. Used together, it should safely remove the wax.

Thanks for the rekplys. What does HNO mean?

HNO... Is the German for your standard
Throat, Nose, Ear specialist doctor.
i.e. T.N.E.

To find one, just go to:
Link to Golden Pages

Type HNO in the "Was/Wen suchen Sie?" and your postal code
in the "Wo suchen Sie?" box.

You should get several options.
Stick this into http://www.hot-maps.de/ to see WHERE they are.
You may have to speak german to make your appointment... huh.gif

My doctor always used to do the whole ear syringing thing for me. It always makes me feel well queezy and fucked up my sense of balance...

A bit like last Saturday after GM's really

Just for clarification, in the States (at least, the part I'm from) it's normally ENT, not TNE.

a friend of mine said you can get hold of candle type things that you put in your ear and light (??) and as they burn they suck the wax out...anyone know what they are called and where they are available from?
interplanetjanet
I've heard of them before, and I find the concept very fascinating. I don't know anything about them here in Munich. Sorry for this very unhelpful post.

Okay is anyone else disturbed by sticking a lit candle in your ear? According to this photo it is something you can do with your whole family.

don_riina
In the bath, empty fairy liquid bottle, underwater, good squeeze into your lugholes. Job done.

Wow wehere can I get one of those candles?
butterbean
I think you have to be a registered collector of ear wax to have one of those candles. Particularly in Germany, where there is a form you need to fill out, and a tax to pay both for the registration, the candle, and the form itself, which needs to be filled out in triplicate and taken in person to four offices across town in only the correct order and only on Mondays between 10:00 and 10:17. Unless its a holiday.

@bb

hehe...and don't forget to de-register the candle when you are done with it.

OMG! Does someone really believe in ear candling?
chicken soup
my friend actually bought one from a chemist in Munich without having to fill in anything so they must be widely available..
Inflatablewoman
wooooo, what they called in German?
chicken soup
I've no idea?? Ohrwax entferner??

There's an informative page on QuackWatch.org entitled:

Quackery - Why Ear Candling Is Not a Good Idea

Here are some choice quotes:

QUOTE
"Ear Candling," also known as auricular candling or coning, refers to various procedures that involve placing a cone-shaped device in the ear canal and supposedly extracting earwax and other impurities with the help of smoke or a burning wick. The origins of candling are obscure. Ancient Tibet, China, Egypt, the pre-Columbian Americas, and even the mythical city of Atlantis are cited as possible contributors. The procedures supposedly create a low-level vacuum that draws wax and other debris out of the ear canal. Some proponents even claim that impurities are removed from the inner ear, the facial sinuses, or even the brain itself, all of which are somehow connected to the canal.

...

Since wax is sticky, the negative pressure needed to pull wax from the canal would have to be so powerful that it would rupture the eardrum in the process. However, candling produces no vacuum. Researchers who measured the pressure during candling of ear models found that no negative pressure was created. The same investigators candled eight ears and found that no ear wax was removed and candle wax was actually deposited in some of them!

...

Ear candles cannot be legally sold in Canada. The Medical Devices Regulations of Canada's Food and Drug Act states that medical device of this type must be licensed by Therapeutic Products Programme of Health Canada before the product can be sold. No licenses have been granted for this product ... and directives prohibiting their importation have been issued

yea sounds kinda weird to me. .. somehow just doesnt make sense <shrug>

That's the order I remember from the UK too.

My HNO/ENT changed recently from the jet wash method to scraping out the wax. Now it's not nearly so much fun. Costs more though.
