Electricity bill reconciliation at year's end

Hi. I have to figure out my electricity bill to get money back from my husbands company. So I am trying to figure out my German bills and fill out American Gov. paperwork. I know, not a fun thing to do on Sunday but necessary. My prepayment is 177.00 euro. We moved in NOv. 1.

Also, I didn't know our prepayment was 177 until this month. I have been paying them 114 euro monthly based on the first bill i saw. Our previous tenants last bill was 74 euro. So, I have paid a larger sum in Sept. 351 euro. I have read some past replies here and I understand that they give you a bill the years end. I didn't get that, just the one in Sept.

So, is the abschlagsanforderung is the amount owed after I paid the 114? Where on the paperwork is the exact usage? I wrote to the company to get exact usages but they just send the same one I have for Jan. I also have a receipt for May that says Abschlagsanforderung was 141,30.

Any ideas?

You moved OUT of the old place on Nov 1st 2007?

You did read the meter on the day you moved out and/or informed the elctricity compkany you were moving out on that day?

Your contratc with them for that property woul have thus ended on that day.
They would have taken the toal ammounts of pre payment (abschlag) you had made in the previous billing period (up to one year) and compared to the actual meter reading on the day you moved out.
And then either paid you money back or demanded you pay the outstanding balance. In a rechnung.

You should only be getting demands for abschlag payments on your new place.
It's not a particualry unsual expereince for the ammount of abschlag to jump when new tenants arrive in a property.

I'm sorry for the bad information I gave you. We have not moved out. We moved in Nov. 2006. We have to do a reconciliation with the U.S. Gov. now, after a year, not with the German electric co.

If you moved in in Nov 2006, by now you should have received the anuual invoice.

That lists exactly in KWH the ammount of electricity your household has used over the last year.
multiplied by the price per KWH,
minus the pre payment you have aleady made.

= EUR xxx

If you owe them a wedge of money, they request you pay it.
if they owe you a wedge of money they send you a cheque maybe..

If the difference is small, it is calculated in your new pre payment schedule which is always + / - what they expect you to use in the new year based on the previous years useage.

So, for any dealing with US Gov. you need the actual invoice that will have the actual working out of the energy used to find the annual price.
If you are sure you haven't had an actual invoice, drop an e mail to the electricity company.

If you really need to fill in those US forms today, I suspect that the total payments you have made in the last year are ROUGHLY equal to the electricity you have consumed.
But if for example you have children, someone is always at home during the day, you use a tumble dryer a lot, have a big TV etc etc and the previous tenants didnt, could be higher.

Thanks alot! Yeah, it's great. At least I can drink beer and check TT and make pizza too. I did write to them for receipts but didn't ask for the final yearly bill since I didn't know that's what they do too. It's all more clear now.

Well, I still don't know why I get all those different amounts for a Abschlagsanforderung, do you know?

The Abschlag payment should only change once per year.
An exception might be if for example you just kept paying what the prevous tenant paid and then the elctricity company relaised there were new tenants and increased the price.
Or maybe they did a routine reading of all the meters and discovered you were using more than the previous tenants etc.

I need to request the annual invoice from them. I need the list of everything we paid and everything that was owed and let us know if we owe anything else or if we paid too much and have a credit.

Can someone write that out for me in German so I can email them. And can you ask if they can send it as an attachment to my email. I need it fast.
