Hi!
Probably not the best intro!
I'm sure you are all lovely people out there - but whilst the idea of clubbing with young attactive people has its obvious merits, I prefer something a little quieter. So, if there are any old bastards that fancy meeting up in a quiet bar anywhere in the city for a drink & rant I'd love to hear from you. Especially this weekend as mrs1788 is in the UK and I will spend all weekend watching Sweeney DVDs otherwise.
Specialist rants welcome would include: loud personal stereos, people using mobiles in the quiet cars of the ICE, etc.

I'm around this weekend with nothing planned and I can always be talked into having a beer, so let me know where and when.

Hi all, I am not much on the club scene myself, care to meet up for a nice cup of tea? I know a nice english tea shop, Mr. Potter, the owner is always game for some chat? Let me know if you all plan something and you care to stomach an american for a few. We have a weds thing going at the Irish Pub if you all care to join! check out the other posting!

I can see we are a couple of organisational genius's. I tend to hang out in Barney's or Connolley's when I'm in Cologne so how about one of those as the venue? Your shout for the when.

Wow, I was expecting a load of abuse after my gloomy post - I am suprised!
Ok then, my fave quiet bar is Le Passage (on Hohenzollernring between REWE and Deutsche Bank). Let's meet 8:30 ish on Saturday (or tonight if Sat NOK)? There's a room in the back with comfy sofas, I will try to bag a table in there. Look for a miserable bugger with short grey hair and glasses!
[edit] Ah, mandrax you have beaten me to it! Thought Barneys & Connolly's are HEAVING on a Saturday?

We were talking about a quiet beer, not clubbing it. Much as I like tea I think I'd prefer a get together over a beer.

Well I know the REWE and the Deutsche Bank so I suppose I should be able to find the bar, so see you there.
You're right about Barney's but Connolly's isn't too bad normally, mind you with the Xmas market invasion who can tell.

I hope to christ that is 20:30 and not 08:30

...or is it an early start?? Which is the best U-Bahn station, Rudolfplatz or Friesenplatz?
jason1788
Dec 15 2007, 1:39 pm
Christ has looked favourably on you chap, it's 20:30 not 08:30. I suppose it's a bit late now, I wonder if you have been there 5 hours already??
Rudolfplatz is closest, take the Mittelstrasse/Hohenzollernring exit.

Something has come up I need to do at 6pm tonight, I will aim to get there for 8pm but unfortunately I cannot guarantee I will be able to make it, I should be able to make a Sunday drink if anyone fancies meeting to watch the footy somewhere?

Hi, I'm a scouser living in Cologne.. I do not do as much socialising as I should... I could also do with practicing my English..

I wouldn't mind coming along when you meet up
Hi Aspiadas, although not a scouser, I'm from that neck of the woods. Feel free to join in, I'll be there around 4pm-ish at Le Passage (not 100% sure where it is!!), not sure who else will be in attendance, but I'm sure a beer will help!

Hi guys, I'm a german boy. Is it possible to join into this meeting? I lived 2 years in Bristol/UK. I don't want to loose the ability to talk in a different language. I really would appreciate it, if you say yes, but i can understand it, if you say no. pls be honest. hopefully, see you on saturday.

I also cant be there so early- I have to work can we do the meet up later? 18:30 sounds better? Steve You are more than welcome!! Anyone else want to meet up??
Laine
This meeting thing is gathering the momentum of a runaway freight train...unbelievable...all waif, strays and na'er do wells are welcome!!
Steve, you are over 18 (I presume, or when you say boy, you really do mean boy??)...you can come and go where you want, but feel free and welcome to join the merry (or not) bunch!
I'll still be there later if people can only make a later appearance, possibly go on a bit later if people want or not...mood dictating...not sure why, but I'm beginning to get the feeling of a 'Carry on at your Convenience' day trip!

yo, that's cool, sure, I'm older than 18 and i can do whatever i want, haha. But sometimes there a groups who want to be for them self. Because of this I asked this question. I don't want to be rude and jump into a party without any invitation.
It's interesting how much people want to have a meeting like this... For me - it means, it's just the right time for this meeting-

Assuming the English Shop has (like last year) a glut of Mr Kipling's mince pies, we intend to have a box or two on the go on the table. As long as they don't kick us out for eating food not purchased on the premises then that should be a good identifier - also a good energy source should one need to ward off unwanted SGR peddlers or other weirdos.

Jesus H, we are going to need a charabang at this rate...
Steve, I know what you mean, feel free to join in, as long as you are not a member of the Judean Peoples Popular Front...splitters...
I'll keep a eye out for the mince pies then, better than eveyone turning up with a carnation, or winking twice and nodding to eveyone in the room!

Hmm, a bit dodgy in Cologne, especially as we will be quite close to the Kettengasse area. Not that I'm xenophobic of course (except where SGR & religous cranks are concerened) but the mince pies will be a safer bet.

I'm new to Cologne, so you will have to forgive me, do you mean xenophobic or homophobic?? I have heard a few things though, there's a fair percentage travelling on the other Bus so I hear, is that Kettengasse or Fudgepackengasse...excuse my French.

lol...I'm really laughing out loud... Jesus...uhm haha no, I don't want to divide groups or split anyone. Funny idea. maybe next time. ;-) for now I'm happy to find some people who I can talking with. I'm looking for a box with minced stuffed on a table, otherwise I have mouth to ask and ears to hear. As much as I know from meetings like this, people are looking nosy on both sites of the table. So, I'm sure it's easy to meet each other.

I suppose I meant homophobic not xenophobic, and yes there certainly are a lot who travel on the other bus! I think I (we) will be aiming for 17:00 not 16:00 due to a late night and lots of shopping to do.
Steve, don't worry about being German - if we are welcoming Americans then we can not exclude anyone else

btw mince pies look like this:
