Would you ever return to your home country?

And if so, what would be the reasons why?

I know I am going back to my home country (Germany) but I am sure I will leave again as well. I love Germany but I also love being elsewhere. So as long as I can I will try to see as many places as I can.

Also, please add me to the list of Germans who want to go to Vancouver. wink.gif

Mariposa, I love Vancouver too. It's my second favorite city in North American next to my hometown Chicago. Vancouver has it all, the mountains, the ocean, a high standard of living, it's clean, nice parks, snow, great shopping and restaurants, and the arts. I love Vancouver. I've been to Vancouver many times and hope to go back there this summer on my way to cruise in Alaska. But I still prefer Germany over living in Vancouver any day.

I'd also like to add that before I go home I want to actually live in Berlin. Its easy for me to say yes, I plan on going back for sure, right now.
I feel like I know I definately want to go home at some point, but that's just my mind state at the moment. I plan on not just seeing, but living in many other places in my life - I wonder what my mindstate will be after I've seen a few more places.

I understand the need to leave, if i didn't, i wouldn't be here, but mine was driven financially.

How many here were driven by cravings or for something other than cash?
Mariposa
bd, mine for example. But it was driven by wanting to study abroad and improving language skills both times (though it was not required for neither of my majors).
And my want to move abroad again after I graduate is also not financially driven, but by wanting to experience different cultures. I would like to live in several countries if I could (like the US, Australia, maybe another Spanish-speaking country or maybe Spain again, maybe Ireland, maybe Scandinavia), but hopefully I will be able to fulfill at least one or two of my wishes (EU will be easier to do but US and AUS I will have to see regarding visa).

Me, definately... I'm not making much money at all in Germany. But as i said, moving here was one of the best things I've ever done.

We're here for our kids--we wanted them to learn another language and to see Europe. I would have preferred Italy so I could help them with their homework, but there were no jobs there, so Germany it was. We're definitely not here for the money--the weak dollar is killing us--we were better off here in the early 90's.

I don't think the USA wants us frankly. It's a pretty tricky place to get into. I think you have a few citizens that you might like to "swap" with us, but getting into the place is tricky as a European.

Hey,
Maybe they'd swap me for you. LOL

I don't really want to make light of this subject. However I'm one of those US'ers who they'd probably like to get rid of. I want to leave, but nobody want's us bums who just want to move for the sake of moving. I want to move to Europe, and since I'm German American prefer Germany to other UK countries, who's cultures honestly seem too alien to me. I simply like to travel, but have limited funds. Crossing the pond every few months gets expensive, and I'm not getting any younger.

We chose to move to Germany and then arranged a transfer within my husband's company. But he had a normal German contract. Although we had very good moving benefits, in terms of salary (his and mine), we probably took a pay cut of around 40% for the pleasure of living in Munich instead of the US. But it was definitely worth it!
